On the welding portion. If your using flux core with your wire feed it will most likely be better for the c notch because its a hotter welding process and you will get better bite into the parent material. For your sheet metal you want to do about a 1/8 gap between your body panel and patch if you see weld on the other side you know your getting good penetration on your welds. Butt weld clamps are good for keeping this gap and keeping the panels flat. Also another note when you are sanding if you see your steel is turning blue then stop immediately, the metal is getting too thin. Flap disc are great for finishing welds I wouldn't use a grinding stone for one reason and that's because they produce heat which can be controlled if you don't stay in one spot too long, goes for the flap disk too. You want long strokes when you grind and you want the abrasive as flat on the material as possible this will prevent you from digging into and gouging the material. If you need any advice on welding I'm a good guy to ask I do it for a living haha good luck with the project!

Thanks for the tips. I am using a Lincoln electric Mig Pak with no gas... it works "okay" for sheetmetal but, I wouldnt use it on anything thicker... I really need to upgrade but, I dont have a clue where to go from here. I would love to learn how to TiG but, a TiG set up isnt cheap. I definately need to upgrade to a gas MiG soon - Especially if I go forward with bagging it. ...and to be honest, I just love to weld. Its thereputic! LOL

I always thought the mig pak you can put a tank on? I have a 140c myself and mig actually is metal inert gas so I think you can put a bottle on.

The one I have is the cheapest "hobbyist" model... I checked and it doesnt have input.

I have a tank, regulator and hose, just need to get higher model welder. I have been told stick is easier but... never tried it.

Ah dang well the problem with stick is your rods need to be dry so typically kept in an oven although great for thicker material and is a totally different technique because you need to move towards the material (feed the rod) as you make that side to side motion I always thought if I were to go big 240v I'd go stick/tig combo because if one can't do the other can. But if you just want to upgrade your mig and you are stuck with 140 plan on upgrading to 240 at some point or want to be able to go back and forth apparently the lincoln 180 is great for that it will run like a 140c on 110v and when you need more juice toss it on a 240v circuit.

If you've already got the bottle then I'd put your flux core machine on Craigslist and upgrade. You'll be amazed by the clean welds you will be putting down. If you've got a 240V receptacle available go that route. The welders have a short power cord, so make an extension cord too.

I would love to go to a 240 machine. I live in military (base) housing for 2 more years. My only 240 outlet is upstairs in the laundry room so, I am limited to 110 till I retire in a couple years... then, you better believe I will have 240 in my garage/shop.

Good call on the CL deal.. maybe I will sell mine and get a adaptable model.

emailed BONSPEED about the rims 2 weeks ago for some info and got no response... WOW, you would think as much as these rims cost new, they would have some customer service worth a $hit... but, NO...

Acid washed the wheels, took off the 1" spacers in the front and dropped it 2 more inches in the front. I also got the front fenders mounted. Should have the grill and hood back on today.

The grill panel isn't matching up on the passenger side so the hood isn't sitting good. They are aftermarket fenders with an OG hood and grill panel...I think it's the fender to be honest. I need to roll the fenders too...had altitude scrape action on a turn/bump.

Thanks for the props, it still isn't really drivable but, it's getting there. I still have to do the corners, rockers and bottom of the doors... That's why she is krylon flat black for now.

Very interesting build so far!
I'm liking it.
I scored a set of centerline Millenium wheels with 85% tread tires for cheap. (Cost $3100 total for everything) I couldn't pass them up either.
Unfortunately, I think I'm going to have the sane issue you did with your powdercoated wheels where the rear wheel was way inside the fender?
Anywho, keep the updates coming!
