Yes pump is good and relay is good. Getting right at 70 psi and it holds and doesn't drop off after key is off. And relay is also good. So I'm stumped spider may have died.

Re: Harpie's 71 SWB 5.3LS build

Fuel pressure doesn't always mean it's getting to the combustion chamber. I'm taking a guess here, but might be something to look into. If your fuel system is used, maybe you have clogged fuel injectors? If it's new, was there a packaging plug somewhere that wasn't removed?

Or, maybe the feed wire that fires the injectors isn't sending the signal? Too many things that can possibly go wrong.... good luck.

It's not new its all from the 99 engine. I agree after checking everything either I have no injector pulse or it has quit or it's plugged up. May just replace and upgrade to the newer style spider.

Ooooh. I didn't remember it was a 99 with the spider. I've heard those are notorious for failing. Or, maybe it was just that it was a royal pain in the A to replace.

Yeah I changed mid build and went with the 5.7 instead of the 5.3 lol might be kicking myself now but yes they are know to fail and also a pain to change. Lucky me!

The 5.7 engine is great too. Super reliable and easy to work on. They have great torque and power too. I have one with a 250K+ miles. Still runs great.

I'm hoping it's a simple fix for you. good luck!

Re: Harpie's 71 SWB 5.3LS build

Little update. Finally figured out 7 out of 8 injectors had clogged so I swapped in a updated mpfi spider and it started first crank and I'm very impressed with the throttle response compared to the old version. Can't wait to drive it just gotta bleed the brakes!

I guess if it's going to fail, it's going to do it drastically. Nice to hear that you found the issue.

I agree wouldn't want it to do anything half assed haha. They would click just wouldn't spray. Oh well all I know is I can now trouble shoot the heck out of a 5.7 vortec in the future.

Re: Harpie's 71 SWB 5.3LS build

Was having trouble bleeding my brakes. So made this real quick out of a pneumatic brake bleed hose and a tractor supply oil can that I had new laying around. Brakes reverse bled in 15 mins, I love when a plan comes together!

Well I got a chance to work on the ol girl today... So I got all the lights installed on the rear and working. I stuck my tag on temporarily until I install the bumper. I can't wait to get all the trim and tailgate band on that big ol butt!

Re: Harpie's 71 SWB 5.3LS build

After playing with my VHX gauges I really wanted to use all its sweet functions. So I called Dakota Digital and they recommend this expansion module. It will simplify the wiring under the dash and I can monitor intake temp, engine codes, trans temp, gear position and a few more. Going to install in the morning.
