Re: 71' (gonna be) a one of a kind custom
I'd say no blue on top of the bed unless you do the traditional color split location. It just looks like too little to make it worthwhile. I'm not sure if I like the hood black or blue... but I think you're getting closer!
Edit: Maybe come down the side a little more with the blue? Who am I to dictate how you paint YOUR truck? I'm sure it will look good no matter how you decide to paint it.

Re: 71' (gonna be) a one of a kind custom
Hood is from Carbon Kustoms, and they don't have one for the '69-72's... I asked Chris Smith from Smitty's Custom Auto as soon as I saw the pic he posted of the one he got for his '67. Makes me want to swap front ends!

Re: 71' (gonna be) a one of a kind custom
That is exactly what I am thinking of doing now too! Although the price tag on that hood was really high. I sent Carbon Kustoms an email asking if they were going to do more than just the hood yesterday. Have not herd back from them yet. They do carbon fiber for Fire Birds and Camaros exclusively with the exception of this hood. If they end up doing fenders, doors and/or bedsides I will spend the money!

Re: 71' (gonna be) a one of a kind custom
[QUOTE=mcmlxix;6273151]I was there too... Took the Harley...
Let me know if you are going to the next one, I should be going if my boss don't make me work his shift so he can go that is. We brought these out last time. That Jeep we built in our Screamin' Lizard shop years ago. The 370Z we did just days before, we did a Fast Intentions Carbon Fiber exhaust system, Seibon Carbon Fiber Spoiler, Hydro-dipped the door handles to look carbon fiber, the Stillen gen 3 cold air intake, and a set of TSW 19" wheels. That Z sold that same day too!

Re: 71' (gonna be) a one of a kind custom
Hadn't hat much to report lately. Been too broke to buy more parts for the moment. Working on paying off my wheels. But I did manage to place an order for my front sway bar! Shipping direct from Hotchkis will hopefully be here by this Friday. and that will be all she wrote for my front suspension! Rear suspension will be up to bat!

I seem to forget how bad ass this build is, then I happen back across it and think "I'm not worthy".

Thanks, I hope I can live upto the expectations. This is, after all, my first ground up build.

Re: 71' (gonna be) a one of a kind custom
Retracting my previous statement about not using my factory trailing arms. The Hotchkis rear sway bar looks like it requires using them, good thing I already had them powder coated!

What a huge relief to have the front suspension done! Hopefully soon I will be able to put the wheels and tires on the front!

Re: 71' (gonna be) a one of a kind custom
So one of the upcoming jobs for the truck is going to be the rear diff. The axle I have now I bought through LKQ when the original diff took a crap. I was told , when I bought it, that it had been recently rebuilt and had 3.42 gears. I was skeptical at the time but had to have one so I bought it and installed it and it worked great (having never checked the ratio) So while rebuilding the whole truck I decided to put an electric locker carrier in it. This past weekend I started pulling the diff apart and found it did not have 3.42 gears when in fact it had 3.73 gears! And they did look to be fairly new as well! So soon I will be dropping in the new carrier and putting it all back together!

I have never been much of a welder, only even tried once or twice. But now I will have to strive to be at least competent.
