Re: 49 3600, s10 swap, project boogie
these little things add up big time. With your ac unit there, it prolly doesn't put out much heat does it? I had one similar to that, ebay deal. wasted hours making a bracket for it yada yada, no heat. had to get a unit that was strictly for heat.

Re: 49 3600, s10 swap, project boogie
It cooked me the other day, so I think it will be ok. I spent a lot of time schmutzing the holes in the firewall so it is pretty sealed.
spent waaaay to much time dinking with the original dome light. the guy asked me to hook it up, I said sure. found the wire in the a pillar, hooked up 12v and checked voltage at the switch on the light, nada. cleaned up the wire, 12v on one side, not the other. cleaned up the wire on the other side, and the insulation came apart all the way inside the bulb socket. *SIGH* why do I even bother? knocked out the old socket, drilled the hole bigger and installed a NEW socket. hunted around for a bulb, ended up stealing the one out of the blazer. ran new pair of wires to the dome location wired it up, this time wired it directly to the underdash dome light. before it only had a single wire to the dome because these trucks dont have door pins. but because it has them now, I just tapped the two wires into another door light and viola! finished up the rat fink shifter too. pulled the carpet to vacuum it the thing wiggles like a widow pleaser when the engine is running, but looks super cool

Re: 49 3600, s10 swap, project boogie
no progress yet, still cleaning the garage. but almost enough room for a truck now!
its outside now and all the remodel/moving stuff is GONE. got a nice welding table off craigslist for $40 got a nice high table for a solder station too, thats whats behind it. should be all clean and ready for the 49 tomorrow, moving the fridge to the other side of the wall and putting that 4.3 4l60e on a cart to free up my wheel dollies. tie up some hanging wires, sweep, organize tools again. its funny, I found every single small funnel I have "lost" over the years and all my tools magically fit in my tool box.

It's always fun to clean up the shop when the project is out.

Re: 49 3600, s10 swap, project boogie
well in this case I have never had the shop! we moved in and there was stuff, remodeled and more stuff. daughters truck she never wants to work on and more stuff. I put my foot down and my a$$ in gear and cleaned it all. now everything rolls so if I need space, I kick it out the door!
got my wheel dollies back, I was using two of them to hold the 4.3/4l60e. I bought this cart months ago for just this purpose and finally got around to popping it on there. It rolls so gently that I have to be careful not to park it on the outside half of the garage, there is a gentle slope to allow water to run out the door and the cart just starts rolling by itself! built a one man lifting frame for my engine hoist. almost ran to get a center bolt and found an eye bolt long enough. waste not want not! my one man setup was one man short. The front wouldnt balance to lift, I didnt really expect it to, but figured I could lift it slightly with the 2x6 and pull the cab singly. nope. so tomorrow I will pull the front clip I GUESS. wasnt looking forward to all new bolts but cest la vie. I have my super fancy 50s bomb cart set up for the cab, it has 4 1800£ (yes I know, lb, right yoshi?) wheels with shocks so I think it will hold a cab imminent progress, the garage is waiting for rolling parts of the truck and I just filled my welding bottle! Short work week, thanksgiving and all, but I should make good progress.

Re: 49 3600, s10 swap, project boogie
I didnt get to work on the 49 yesterday, I hauled the 248 gmc to a guy 100 miles away for not much more than scrap and gas. still worth it to see it used.
I used to be more optimistic. I would spray down rusted fasteners with acetone and tranny fluid or penetrol days before trying to loosen them. I have learned, that is a lot of work for fasteners I will never reuse. now I either hit em with the grinder/cutoff wheel or just get on both sides of the fastener and TIGHTEN. They give up immediately, its super fast. so today the front end came loose in about 30 minutes everything goes in for the thanksgiving day party, but it all rolls now.

he caught me right, I wanted it out of the driveway before thanksgiving so it wouldnt look like a salvage yard. it is usually filled with "treasures" and parts I will use "tomorrow"

Re: 49 3600, s10 swap, project boogie
well, we had the choice when moving, lots of pretty and done tract homes with pretty cul de sacs and HOA, or this house nearly at the end of a dead end street, which hadnt been updated since 1950 (the year it was built), and has a 200ft long driveway. I figure the only thing I really lost was the finished walkout basement but gained ALLL the storage space. took a lot of remodeling though, would have liked to have spent THAT money on some trucks and parts.

I would choose the house with the 200 foot driveway too! Wow, that cab looks really solid.

Re: 49 3600, s10 swap, project boogie
no progress, my oldest flew in from phoenix for the holiday and the middle girl is in israel/bahamas for her senior trip, so busy busy.
I did get a deal on some 2.5" extended upper control arms, so instead of using the ART tubular arms I have here I will just extend the stock lowers and plate them for bags. They have the spherical upper ball joints and machined cross shafts, so thats nice.
