Well power steering kit requires that the lower shock mounts go towards the rear. Again, I'm glad I didn't quite put it all together and torque everything. I went ahead and dropped the axle again so I could roll it over and tap on the end caps that cover the kingpins. Bottom ones were to much of a pain trying to do that underneath. Moved the shock mounts around and ground just a tad off of the steering stops and moved the caliper brackets around so that the calipers are towards the cab.
Got the gearbox kinda in place, need to make a bracket and was able to borrow the tool needed to pull off the c10s pitman arm. The p/s kit's draglink wouldn't thread on the tie rod in on one side. Before I chased the threads I thought I'd call POL and they said no big deal another draglink is in the mail.

Me and a friend if mine worked on the truck a little, took our sweet time on the passenger corner, so far no warping! Needs another pass though. Driver side inner is in, and started fitting outer to fit. Messed with a couple other things but the corners are the big part for now.

Got driver corner on today, I think it takes just as long to fit it in place. The bends arnt quite right and it took me some time to get it tacked in place.
Got smart today and picked my bed up off the ground, found a good use for old rims and tires lol. A PO had smoothed the top rails on my bed, I plan to open the pockets back up so I can I have wooden rails. Part of the look I always wanted.

Brake lines are in the mail! And I got an early birthday present from my wife! A radio with all the stuff I wanted. Has siriusxm so I won't have to mount a separate controller and is Bluetooth with lots of extra plug in stuff in the back. Should look like this pic when done.
I need to do some searches to figure out how I will do the speakers and which one to get. Any suggestions?

I'll have to ask. But it said retrosound on it. The built in siriusxm feature instead of having to mount one separate kinda adds to the price, but it will look better than having one mounted off the dash.

Got some time in this morning. Preparing the rear to make a cradle for gas tank. My welding is getting better but my buddy's sheet metal welding is getting much better.

Gas tank in! Need to finish welds but wanted to put bed on with a couple boards in and triple check placement again with only tack welds in. Measured, measured, measured... finally tacked it in. Used a couple of levels and I think its as perfect as it will get!

Great job on the build Matt. You have been at it 6 months less than me but are way further along. Besides the typical time constraints of work and family getting in the way I also have to battle with "analysis paralysis" on just about everything I do.
Im going to be installing brake lines in the near future and was wondering how yours were coming along? Did you chose stainless or the copper nickel lines? I hear the copper nickel are much easier to work but have never done either. Let me know what you think? |

I've been distracted lately, holidays and recently picked a new project for my wife. A 66 mustang that needs some work.
I've been ordering lots of small things, I plan to have all my glass and seals done in a few days. A couple days before Christmas I borrowed this awesome brake flaring tool from a buddy across the street. I'll let ya know how it all works out.

I finally got around to cleaning up my steering column. Remember, this was out of a 1970 truck so it allows me to keep the ignition in the dash and have tilt and auto shifter. I'm keeping with original column mount and I'm carefully notching the bottom piece so that the wires from the new turn signal run through it. Once the little cover is on the wires will be hidden.
Got old windshield out and was happy to not have any bad rust from the leaks. Got new glass for driver side and got it all in the new weatherstripping with rope and all ready to install tomorrow. All the door stuff and glass I ordered should be in the mail tomorrow too. Kinda exciting to start putting all the little stuff in. Really makes it look like things are moving along.

I broke the passenger side glass😂
I had it lined up all around and in the center, but once I started it got off center by just a bit. I couldn't get it to move over so I started taking it back out and crack!! Thankfully it's the old one and not the one I just bought. It was going so well, my wife was helping to hold and press it and now I gotta wait for new glass.

I took driver door off to put the seat in so I can get my steering column where I want it. I'll try to get steering column in tomorrow. The seat frame got cleaned up and painted and I greased up the tracks, pretty happy about it.
Decided to keep door off and take a look at the ugly area at the bottom. Looked like a PO smeared a lot of bondo and since I'm doing the glass and stuff I thought this would be a great time to see what was up. I have now learned there is a seal and seal retainer under all that and that the door skin is rusted through, no surprise. Any suggestions on how to fix?? I'm currently thinking of cut out rust and make a new piece to fit in there. I'd hope the piece can be small enough to be mostly covered by the retainer.

You can cut the rust out leaving solid steel, and weld a patch piece back in. I got a patch panel from one of the suppliers and cut the patch I needed. Some make their own patches, but I'm not that good at metal bending yet. Go through this page and you'll see a couple of pictures of what I did - http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...=746899&page=7
I'm not saying that it is the right way, but I think I got all the rust out and patched back with new steel. There are some threads here on welding in patch panels. Several guys on here can really help with the "how to" on this. They have a ton of experience and have helped me a bunch. The door you see in my thread is only my third door repair at that lower inside rust out. I'm cutting the patch panel for the 4th door this weekend. Others may have other suggestions.

matt you need the gasket seated before you can move the glass around, it will always look off when you first start but after you get the gasket fully seated, you can use plastic sticks to move the glass this way and that.
on your column mount, can I suggest to put the wiring to the side and split the groove between top and bottom halves? you really want that bottom radius to be against the column, for stress. good progress!
