Re: LFD's low buck truck build!
Kevin,
It's looking really good...I've had to catch up on your whole post over the last few hours..(haven't been on the board in a while)... Anyways...I don't suppose you could ship me that front section of bed sheet metal you cut out? ![]() ![]() So either I add...or look for another bed...which down here in Florida..well that's about pointless.... Anyway..keep up the good work, it's nice to see a post for the average builder out there..who can't afford to spend thousands and just wants a nice daily driver.... ![]()

Sean, I bought a parts truck and may have what you need. I won't know until I pick it up (end of month or first of next month). If it's what you need, you can have it. Shipping will definitely be cheaper, or you can make a road trip to P-Cola.

So if I have one in high school, does that mean I'm really, really old?!

Re: LFD's low buck truck build!
Sorry this is late but.... So to answer your question if I remember right it didn't! The forward lower edge was longer then the rear most section, so I lined it up from the body line down as I was tacking it together and then trimmed off the extra metal. I think I remember using a straight edge to line it up on one plane then snipped off the extra.
PS. If you lower it enough no one will ever see it if left long ![]() Kevin LFD Inc. |

Re: LFD's low buck truck build!
has anybody ever tried cutting down the bed sides w/a plasma cutter. i see everyone uses a cutoff wheel.

Re: LFD's low buck truck build!
I personally have never had any luck cutting thin metals with a Plasma, maybe setting were wrong for thing stuff, but it'd cut 3/8" like it was cool.

Re: LFD's low buck truck build!
used to use a plasma cutter on thin steel and zinkprimed steel at that .... lot of green smoke and headacke and it gave burs too like when you cut steel with gas , you need to move the nozle pretty quick with the thinner steel so a guide would be nice
a anglegrinder is cheaper and in my opinion give cleaner cuts as long as you can get the machine to where you need to be .

Re: LFD's low buck truck build!
Well yea, I've tried it, but I always overrun the cut or end up with a big hole in it from too much heat.... Haha. You know what, that was with a torch I was thinking about!!!! Nevermind. LMAO

Re: LFD's low buck truck build!
The bed is ready to go back on the frame once it has been cut down. I still have some blocking and touch up on the bed but right now it is in better shape then 98% of beds out their. Sure feels good to have this part done.
So I spent an 8hr day cutting down the bed and tacking it back together. Another 8hr day doing body work and 3hrs today sanding and primming. Altogether I have spent about $150 on sandpaper, body filler and primmer. Kevin LFD Inc. $1117.64 62hrs Last edited by Rokcrln; 03-11-2007 at 05:23 PM. |
