Re: 85 burb meets 6.0 lq4
Well it looks like i am finally going to get a starter from the place i got my engine....So they say.... We will see....
On a better note my package got to my house with rest of fuel system. So i may be able to install my pump, and carb, and remove my mech fuel pump. Hope all goes well with that. If it does all i will have to do is remove my old engine and install new one and run a few wires and have exhaust done. What kind of exhaust system should i get put on. Single, duel, H pipe, X pipe, or what? It has long tubes now with y pipe to one flowmaster of some kind. Think maybe 2 1/2 or 2 3/4 to tail pipe.

Re: 85 burb meets 6.0 lq4
Just depends on whether you wanns be stealth or have them hear you coming!
I am a firm believer in x-pipes. They tone it down a tad along with balancing and scavenging. If not..at least an h-pipe with your duals. By the same token...a big 3" to 4" single could sound good, give decent performance, and be quiet too. Its really a personal thing I think. If I don't buy the Magnaflow system (duals made for these trucks w/x pipe) and slightly mod it to get it in the way I want...or I may go with a Pypes system or even custom built. I'm older and would probably lean more towards turbo mufflers vs chambered mufflers.

Re: 85 burb meets 6.0 lq4
Want to hear it at stop light but would still like to talk to passenger on hiway. Sound mean when i punch it also. Not sure what muffs are on alot of the mucle cars at the shows but they all sound pretty much same. You can hear the cam good but not crazy loud. Mostly hear camaros that have the sound i want. Not sure if duels can be done with burb. Never seen it.

If you can get over the whine from i guess the gear drive this is what i want for sound. Look like flowmasters to me. That kinda idle would work too...

Re: 85 burb meets 6.0 lq4
Yes...and yes. I've heard that the 70's don't drone? I put some flowmaster 40's with true duals on my 6.0L Sierra C3 and was tired of them before I even made it home. Swapped out for a turbo style muffler and was much better. The added an x-pipe and dumped the exhaust...still no drone.

Re: 85 burb meets 6.0 lq4
Hmmm. I never put an exhaust on v8 truck befor just the used flowmaster i have. Old 68 had duel think 55s or 40s not sure. Sounded good not much drone it had x pipe and went all way to the back.

x-pipe will help....it has a quieting effect on any system.

Re: 85 burb meets 6.0 lq4
Still cant beleve i cant find any dang headers that WILL fit. With tons of swaps done on 73-87 trucks no one sells them yet. I dont under stand why they are not made yet. Hell they even sell them for 88-98 trucks. That is crap they skipped one of the most popular body styles. Guess i will have to get fbody headers and hope for the best...

Re: 85 burb meets 6.0 lq4
I am also getting woried about my mounts i got. One diagram shows them to set the engine 1.5 inches forward of stock location. I have 4592 plates. Maybe i am just getting overly excited about all this stuff due to time limits i have to put motor in.....

Why wont the 73-87 ones fit. Fire wall forward is the same as the trucks.

they dont make headers for that year if that is what you are refering to.. only S&P makes them for 600 bucks for mid lenght.

Re: 85 burb meets 6.0 lq4
you need to find yourself an extra day or two somehow. That way you'll have time to order something from Summit or somebody for O/N delivery for whatever you need. Like start Thur. afternoon and you can order till late at night. for Fri. and/or Sat. deliveries.

I will be trying the fbody headers and trying to get a set of maniflods from 6.2 liter or one like yours. They look sweet and i know what i have to do to make them fit. Will only have to notch frame lip a tiny bit. So i will have a back up plan if the fbodys dont fit.

Re: 85 burb meets 6.0 lq4
other then the exh. lift number that cam is a little milder then the GM Hot cam but hotter then say the '01 Z06 cam. So what are you thinking?
the thumper cams are more about the idle and sound, then about making big power.

Looks like it would be ok. I don't think you would want to any bigger so not to lose ta seeing how you have a 4x4.

Re: 85 burb meets 6.0 lq4
I not really sure what i think i want good power. But sitll want to hear it some. Dont want it to idle like grandmas cadillac. But also dont want a 2000 rpm base idle. So far still going with the GM Hot Cam. Still a while away for cam purchase. Thanks. Is it true that the less lobe seperation angle helps carb motors get better signal to carb for better throttle response? Think i read that some ware.
