Re: 89 crew cab k20 4wd twin turbo cummins swap
The smart ones move but I've been working in Seattle area a lot lately and seems people pull in front of anything doesn't matter if it's me or a Peterbilt. It's an 83 I bought in Colorado Springs at the end of June. It was worth the flight and 1200 mile drive to get a K30 crew with a cummins and nv4500 already in it for 6500. It sat stock and was 9 colors when I bought it. I had the front clip swapped replaced the door had atlas build the springs put Xover steering from ORD painted it and put suspension tires and wheels on by the end of July. Has a 9in total lift with 37s n 20s. Drives awesome. I absolutely love this truck. I have about 10.5k total in it but itd take close to double that to talk me out if it. I'd love to do a compound like yours but I think a nice single would fit my dd needs just fine. I think 400hp and 800 lb/ft is more the enough for a dd. I drive this truck between 500 and 1000 miles a week so fuel milage dependability and longevity is quite important.
I like what you did for AC. There's another guy just down the road from me that did the same. Are you running the 95ish compressed from a dodge? I have nearly everything still in truck for AC I just need the compressor and a few minor pieces to back to summer time comfort.

Re: 89 crew cab k20 4wd twin turbo cummins swap
lol nice, yea i'm running a stock 95 dodge compressor.
So i finally got the mirrors mounted, i know a lot of you have been waiting to see what i did. Personally i'm very happy with how they turned out, i'm sure some people may disagree.. Maybe someday i'll do a custom one piece window but for now this will work for me. I first mounted the mirror to a stainless window replacement but it was too flimsy which would cause blurry vision on the road. So I then cut out the window plate and welded another plate to the inner door to mount to. Its VERY solid now! Replacing the rubber wasn't much fun, i'm still working on the other doors. Which by the way i just started the rear doors and dam are they a pain in the rear! Welp here are some pics |

Looking really nice! Putting the doors together is one of the things I dread most after fresh paint. Tape everything up and pray, please don't scratch it. Please don't goudge it.

I really like how clean that white makes your truck look. Are you going to put fender flares on to help protect your paint from the stuff your tires will pick up?

Re: 89 crew cab k20 4wd twin turbo cummins swap
I'm back! Left for a week snowmobiling up north then took off to the Dominican Republic for our honeymoon for 2 weeks! Made it back last week and have been scrambling since to get caught up. Finally had some time to work on the truck last few nights til midnight. I sure have missed working on it! Couldn't stop thinking bout what i was going to do when I got back haha
Yes i'm definitely installing fender flares to protect the paint whether they look good or not.. I shortened and painted some bolt on bushwackers Update: My painter Mike has been helping me in return for using my lift when he needs it. It's awesome having a friend that ACTUALLY knows what he's doing! Most of the guys i know can install some shiny rims and change their oil, that's about it... The cowl and wipers are all together, tailgate and bumper installed, rear window is in, headache rack stacks and toolbox sitting in place but not bolted yet. Here's some pics! |

Looking good! For some reason, I I think a pic of this truck driving down the road will look crazy bad ass.

All I can say is WOW. There are no words to describe how awesome your truck is. Can't wait to see some finished video!

Re: 89 crew cab k20 4wd twin turbo cummins swap
It does look sweet! I hope for your head's sake that you're going to put some roll cage foam on your cage. Trust me, it hurts and pisses you clear off when you wack your head on them. How did you like the Dominican Republic? I'm sure snow mobiling on your new sled was a blast too!

Re: 89 crew cab k20 4wd twin turbo cummins swap
The Dominican was AWESOME! Wish i was still there haha sick of this cold weather, all the water lines on the farm are froze along with half the town.
Sorry i don't have the lights hooked up yet but Mike who smoked them said they will be surprisingly bright. I thought i was going to need to lenses cuz these were so scratched and faded but he worked magic on them! |

Re: 89 crew cab k20 4wd twin turbo cummins swap
so Mike n I were up to 3am bolting down the box, headache rack, stacks, and toolbox. Had to drill new holes for the box and add spacers until the body lines were perfectly square and of course it fought us every step of the way. Nothing has been easy on this dam truck..
heres a few pics: Here's a pic of Mike holding the fender flare in place. These won't get installed until the front fenders are on |

Re: 89 crew cab k20 4wd twin turbo cummins swap
So you're not cutting the fenders to fit the flares, how did you modify the flares to fit?
And I'm guessing will you actually bolt them to the fenders or use double sided tape? Looks sweet!! |

Re: 89 crew cab k20 4wd twin turbo cummins swap
Truck is really coming together. Looks good. I would love it if you could post some pics of the nerf bars installation points. Also if you know what model # you went with. All the ones I've found only list newer trucks and the 18yr old at the truck shop has no clue or interest in helping to figure out a work around. If not I understand. You are busy with your ow own truck. Can't wait to see yours up and sootin'.

Re: 89 crew cab k20 4wd twin turbo cummins swap
The fender flares i cut and shortened so i didn't have to cut out my fender wells and they're the bushwacker bolt ons.
For the nerf bars i went with the newer crewcab shortbox chevy. I installed them like you normally would only had to do a little cutting and throw them in the press a few times. So I need some opinions from you guys, can't decide what to do with the front grille... Do I keep it white with a black emblem or polsihed aluminum? Or a black grille with black, polished, or white emblem? oooor paint the upper and lower half of the white grille black :-\ |

My vote is a billet grille, I know it wasn't an option. The truck looks great.

Re: 89 crew cab k20 4wd twin turbo cummins swap
I agree with the billet grill, or a GMC grill with a billet insert. I think it might look nice with the checkered areas of the grill a light silver or gray and leave the center and edges on top and bottom the white.

Eric, you have made some excellent decisions so far. Besides your truck, here is a picture of another build thread on this sight that has inspired me with my build.
