Richard it’s tough keeping the garage warm so I set up 3 cheap box fans with the filters on them in the closed garage. When I’m done spraying I open the garage door about 2’ and set the same 3 fans blowing out and my 110,000 btu salamander heater blowing in. Surprisingly I get very little over spray inside.

It’s almost ready for the rotisserie!

Just messin with ya Paul, I know the struggles there. I have 2 3' chicken house fans mounted in the wall and have to run my 110, 150 and 210k salamanders to keep it decent enough while painting in the cold weather.

Have you set a timeline yet for when you think you will be done?

Richard I get asked that all the time. My answer is always that it will be done when it is done. No time frame for this at all. If it is anything like my two Cougars then it will never be done! I'm always messing with or improving them. Honestly I like working on them, driving them and going to car shows/cruise nights in that order.

Looks like a pretty nice '52 or '53 Mercury hubcap you have there, or is it Oldsmobile? The more I look at it the more it looks like Olds.

It’s an old Mercury hubcap Leon. I’ve had it since I was a kid. No cheap mask for me. I picked up a 3M sandblasting helmet for $30 on Craigslist ($700 new at Grainger). I also made a positive pressure assembly from an old computer fan and sump pump hose. I’ll put a filter on in and put it outside.

Sandblasting indoors is a bad idea. My positive pressure mask idea worked perfectly but I’ll be cleaning the abrasive dust out of my garage for years.

I've never tried it. I use the cabinet inside and my big pressurized blaster outside. The only problem is I can only do the bigger stuff when the weather is decent.

Leon I set up plastic on all sides of the shell with binder clips every 6 inches or so. The excess plastic went along the floor and overlapped underneath a couple feet all the way around. I didn’t realize that the pressure of my mask and the pressure of the sandblasting gun would push all of the super fine particles out. Then I set up a fan that vented the booth out the side door of the garage. By then though the damage was done! The fine dust sticks to everything and has to be wiped off. After finishing and taking the boot down I opened both doors and got out my backpack leaf blower. I’ve almost got all of the sand out of the nooks and crannies on the shell and I have to say it looks really good.

Good deal. Sounds like you had a lot of extra work to do though. That's a bummer.....

Mine had more rust than I had hoped. Quarters and rockers both sides had to be replaced!

I went with Al’s Liner a DIY bed liner for undercoating. It looks good but was kind of a pain to apply. It has a very short pot life that is greatly reduced if it is over mixed.

How much rust are you looking at?

5 hours to make the “paint booth” 2 hours to spray the epoxy primer. Tomorrow the seam sealer goes in the drip rails and hopefully I’ll have time to apply the urethane primer too.

Roof looks good, are you block sanding next round of primer? take some pics of seam sealer when done

I'm going to have to do a some block sanding before the urethane primer goes on. When I turned the rotisserie to paint the lower part the plastic stuck to the paint in two spots.
