Blasted and painted the rear tow hooks for 3/4 ton 4x4. Now we just have to restore the truck.

Today I installed a new manual fuel pump. Old one's diaphragm was shot. Tomorrow she gets a re-manufactured carb.

Installed a front sway bar from a '78 1 ton using Energy poly bushings and CPP sway bar mounts. Unfortunately I haven't had a chance to drive it, yet. It was time for Big Brother!

Installed peep mirrors, driver and passenger (convex). Should have purchased convex for both sides.

Replaced the Raptor mufflers that came on the truck with a set of Thrush welded mufflers. Sound was a reason, but the big thing was I wanted the outlets to be symmetrical and I couldn't get a new Raptor to match the old one.

Finally drove it on the very curvey roads around here ansd the sway bar makes a huge difference. I don't have to hold on to the door to keep from sliding over anymore! Woo hoo!

I ran out and took a couple of pictures. Disregard the excessive grease and the white lithium grease (stupid creaking spring).

Re: What did you do to your truck today part III

It is a Tremec TKO 500 5 speed. Silver Sport Transmission moved the shifter location to the top of the transmission when I ordered it. It was a fairly simple job. The transmission fit the floor of the truck except the bolt in section. I raised the back of the bolt in section 2 inches. My being a '63 I used the e-brake crossmember for the transmission crossmember and left the bell housing mounts off. A longer speedometer cable and shorten the driveshaft. Your bell housing needs the correct size hole for the transmission. Name: 20160621_173628.jpg

Re: What did you do to your truck today part III

I used my factory 3 on tree housing for both t5 and TKO 600. I went to the hydraulic bearing with new headers because fork didn't clear them. I was able to rotate the shifter into #2 position with the Porterbuilt stuff moving things forward and up. Also could put a Gear Vendor od and make a 6 speed over/under drive for about same $.

Re: What did you do to your truck today part III

Is elevating the high hump necessary? Reason I ask is because my 66 was a 4 speed with a low hump which the PO butchered up cutting the hole for the shifter so I cut all that out and installed a high hump with the matching firewall section.

Am I going to have to raise the high hump as well? SBC with a TKO 5 speed.

thanks.

With the high hump you won't need to change anything about the floor. I think the '66 e-brake is different from my '63...I had to redo my e-brake.

Spent the afternoon messing with the choke and timing, trying to get the Cadillac 500 to start better when hot.

Finally got the new motor in, vacuum timed and adjusted carb. Got the transmission out of gear. Teed the vaccuum line. Couldn't wait to drive it so I took it to the monthly cruise night with my daughter.

Re: What did you do to your truck today part III

Finished painting the front and left side of my engine, and put it back together with all new belts and hoses and gaskets. Still have the oil pan to do yet. Please excuse the overspray on the mounts. When I jack up the engine to do the oil pan, I intent to remove the towers, repaint and install with new mounts.

I went and looked at it at the painters. I should have it back by the end of next week.
