Short Pump vs Long Pump (Again!)
I've pretty much decided to go for the long water pump conversion due to the fact that there is a lot more later model stuff in our local boneyards than earlier stuff. I've got the truck front end stripped down to the frame so it will be kinda hard to take measurements, but if any of the members have done the conversion on a 350 SBC/4-row radiator, how is the fan/radiator clearance with the 1 3/8" longer water pump? Is there enough room to use a clutch fan, or even an electric puller fan? Pictures would be a great help!
As always, thanks for your help! |

There is plenty of room with 4 row and long pump with clutch fan. the fan sticks farther into the shroud than needed, so I cut about an inch off of ths shroud and it seems to work okay. Also a BB shroud fits good. John

I did the same thing as John. I cut about an inch off the shroud so the fan blade is about half way in. I have a clutch fan from a late 70's truck, works great.

Many thanks, amigos!
John, you mention that a BB shroud fits good. My truck didn't have a shroud as purchased, so what is the difference between the SBC/BB shrouds? Also, while on the subject of shrouds, LMC has a listing for a non-A/C shroud and an A/C shroud, with the A/C shroud being $10 less than the non-A/C. At some point down the road, we plan to add A/C, so does anyone know what the difference is between the two? |

I have no idea what the difference is between A/C and non A/C shrouds. The BB shroud fits a long pump with no alterations as the BB is longer then SB. Here is pic of BB shroud on long pump SB. John
