questions about new carpet and grille

i bought a new outer grille and a new carpet sat for my 69 and wondered a few things.On the grille,i had to remove the old braces on either end and reattach them.And that went ok.But when i went to try and do a test fit,it wouldnt fit.It would go around 1 headlight ok but not the other one.I cant remember how i took the other one off ,but do you have to loosen the front fender bolts on the rad support to get a little bit of leway to get the grille in?
and on the carpet....i took it out of the box just to take a look at it and noticed what im guessing is the grommet for the highbeam switch.Is there a hole already in the carpet?And how do you attach the grommet?

on the grill it is normal to have to loosen and spread the fenders apart otherwise it will go in so tight there is a good chance it will tear up the paint on the fenders (not to mention it goes in alot easier)

for the carpet you'd have to position the carpet on the floor then cut a hole for the dimmer switch the grommet just slips into the hole

19mike69: Be double sure the carpet covers the 'COMPLETE" floorboard before you start cutting. I didn't double check mine last week and went ahead and cut for the tranny location and "THEN noticed it was too narrow on each side by the kickpanels! later Doug

As 69short fleet said, check the fit from side to side and front to back- Twice!, before cutting. Mount your new sills, seat, belts and then cut for the dimmer. The grommet is a 2 piece that sandwhiches the carpet.

...to assist you in installing the carpet is to lay it out in the sun for a few hours prior to installation to "warm it up". This makes the carpet a bit more pliable, allows it to lay flatter and much easier to work with. Hope this helps.

ok,thanks for all the tips.....im guessing the carpet just lays in there right?GMC Pauls told me it just lays in there,no need for any adhesive
