Question Dash with Tach

I picked up a dash off Ebay with a tach. I was wondering if the possitive side of the tach stayed hot all the time or if it is just hot when the key is on? Also doe's it need to be fused?

Key on only.
A fuse would be a good idea...it would be the weak link. If you don't use a fuse, the tach would be the weak link...fuses are MOCh cheaper than stock tachs.

If in question, Fuse It! General rule of thumb.
