Door Hinges
Is it usually the hinge or the pin that wears? I need to replace one and just curious if the kits are worth the effort or should I just buy a new hinge.

The hinge pins and bushings are what generally need to be replaced. Hinge itself is rather sturdy. When I had mine off I used the glass bead machine at work during lunch to clean them up, prime and repaint. Fairly easy rebuild using a bench vise, hammer and a drift pin. I bought the repair parts from my local truck parts vendor. Re-built all four hinges, upper and lower, driver and passenger side. The upper hinges use a two-part "dentent" plate arrangement to "hold" the door open. They can be persuaded with some judicial use of a pry bar to retain the correct tension. Made a big difference when they went back on the truck. Good luck and Keep On Truckin'

most rebuild kits come with oversized bushings and pins.

Thanks...I see how those work now. I checked in LMC and they have them there. I have an old hinge that I will install for the time being. It appears only the bottom hinge is really bad.
