To rebuild or not to that is the ?(engine)

I'm having trouble making up my mind I almost went with a 383 but it started costing to much then I thought 350 crate motor from GM just the 260hp model now I'm thinking rebuild 327. I'm thinking of getting my 327 rebuilt instead of going with a 350 since i already have the block what should i do to it? could I make a stroker out of it?
how much power could i get out of it I would like a little over 300 hp? If I could make a stroker out of it what combonation should I use and what type of machine work do i need to get done?

should i just go with a 350?

my buddy has a 67 camaro with a 327. he says it is a 331. i think it`s just bored over but it is a sweet motor. it will rev fast and high. i would rebuild it for sure.

I don't imagine you can built a 327 stroler any cheaper than you could your 383. If all you want to know is what is cheapest, I'll bet the crate motor would be. If you want a performance motor, you're going to spend more money. Like thay say, speed costs, how much do you want to spend?

the first and probably most important thing to decide for your engine project is your budget!!!! put it down in black and white how are you going to pay for it and howmuch you're going to spend ???
then it's just a matter of pricing out the cost of rebuilding or buying a crate motor. it's pretty hard to beat the prices that gm offers the crates at

You can build a 300+hp 327 w/o stroking or increasing displacement.Although,you may need to change bore do to wear.Chevy built 325hp w/cam,head,and compression changes.

I have had my crate 350 for about 7 months now with about 20,000 miles on it and i am real happy with the engine.I got it from paceperformance.com for around $1400 delivered,dont think you can rebuild one with a warranty for that.If you have any questions feel free to send me a pm.

a 327 has the same bore as a 350 so if you stroke it you will have a 383. So either way a stroked 327 or 350 is the same thing.

Trade the 327 for a rebuildable 350. Do a basic rebuild with good pistons and a decent cam. put on some vortec heads and intake, you will be at about 300 horses. They say that vortecs add 50 hp over stock (stock is about 260)so with a good cam you should be easily at 300hp.

you can build and excellent motor for $1500. are you assembling it yourself? the more labor you pay the more the price goes up. kind of like brakes. you can get parts for $100 and a mechanic will charge you $200 just to put them on. you can get a great balanced bottom end for your motor online for $700 and a nice set of world heads, or good chevy heads for $500. your machine work should be around $300. now your talking 300+ horse easy. that`s assuming you assemble it though.
