Priming and blocking, priming and blocking...

Last weekend it was sand blasting the inside of the truck bed followed by self-etching primer. This weekend its prime and block time for the outside of the bed a couple of more times. I wonder if anybody hates this part of bodywork worse than me. I know its necessary for a great looking paint job but it bores me to tears.

Do you block sand after every coat of primer? I was told put about 4 coats on with a contracting mist for a guide then block sand. I help a body shop owner block sand a Diamondt T (Lot of freakin sheet metal) but we only sanded once. I don't know if he did it to prior coats or shot another primer after?

I use high building primer with a guide coat then sand. I usually repeat until I am comfortable with what I see.

Not my favorite job either. The details make the paint job though.

Yes, I block after every coat of primer, using 3M guide coat, and use a long board whenever possible. I use 180 until the low spots are all gone and then prime and block with 320, then prime and block with 600, then base coat clear coat it then friggin' sand again starting with 1000 grit all the way up to 1500 or 2000 grit then buffing with three different compounds. I don't do any of the paint work myself, a buddy of mine that owns the shop does that but the rest is my job.
