I finally got my LMC catalog for 73-87 trucks. I know that its said these trucks have inter-changeable parts, and I'm sure I can order the gauges and lines to replace my old light up ones with only pic and red light. But I'm wondering if I could still order these wheel wells and grille to fit on my 1 ton, when they only designate 1/2 and 3/4 ton trucks. And what about floor pans that they only designate for lighter trucks?

The cabs from 73-80 are the same, the beds are the same (minus possible bolt locations) , the front fenders are the same from 73-80, the inner fenders from 73-80, and the grills were often different from year to year.

Anything that I said was the same from 73-80 means that everything from 81-87 is also the same, basically split into two year ranges, some parts will go between any truck, and some will only fit one year. The easiest way to tell the difference is to look at the marker lights on the front fenders -- Vertical = 73-80, horizontal = 81-87

As far as the instrumentation goes, make sure that you get a bezel with either an amp or voltage gauge depending on which one you have, aka, if you have an amp gauge, get an amp gauge bezel, vice versa. Some gauges are electric, some are mechanical, also watch for that... While you've got stuff apart, go buy a can of chrome rattle can paint, and spray it onto the blue parts of your dash bezel, you'd be amazed at how much brighter it will all be...

as for replacing your Idiot lights, i would PM Crossy, he deals with guage clusters alot (or used to) he may have some valuable information for you. as for just putting guages in your existing cluster, AFAIK it work work, the printed circuit boards are different.

the wheelwells will work on your truck, and if you have a 1 ton 2wd the floorpans should be the same as well.

So Russel, you're saying that I could go to the junkyard and take off the front feneders from a '77 C10 and fit my '80 C30 by checking the marker lights? Thats really cool they can be singled out and identified easily.

80 was an odd year, Im not sure if the fender will bolt up to the core support.

There might not be any problems at all. But I know that 80 was an odd year it has older style fenders and newer style core support. I was thinking since it has the new core support that it might cause a problem. Im not 100% sure tho

Fenders didn't change shape until 81 so any 73-80 fender will fit. It's true in 80 some trucks used round headlights and some used square, but the fenders are the same as 73-79.

All of the 73-87 body parts interchange you just have to know how to do that. The 73-80 interchange at the part for part level as do the 81-87's. Between series 73-80 and 81-87 fit but can require groups of parts to make the swap. This includes fenders, hood's cab's, bed's etc. All of the 10, 20 sheetmetal fit the 30 series. The cabs from 73-80 are either 2wd or 4wd cabs. The cabs from 81-87 are all the same, basically a 2wd or universal cab. The frames are different from series to series, but basically the same with minor differences from 73-87 or at least all those I have seen are.

What year stock grille and fenders are you looking for? I may have them and I'm about 35 miles from Gahanna. I do mostly K30 and C30's if you have any questions.

BTW there are no 73-87 Chevy trucks in any Columbus area junkyard. They were crushed long ago and the ones that weren't probably don't have enough steel left in them to hold a magnet.
