350 running like $hit
i just rebuilt the quadrajet 4bbl carb on my pickup, bolted it on, and dropped the battery in and cranked it up and it runs like crap. when i really open it up it runs great, it just won't idle smooth. before i rebuilt the carb, the engine ran smooth, it just didn't accellerate good. what's up with this???

Sounds like you need to adjust the idle mixture.

Thanks guys, will check that out tomorrow morning. Yeah, I did pick a long name. My name's Robert, my truck is a 1970C/20, and it is a rust bucket. It needs new rockers and a left cab corner, and probably 5 gallons of bondo. It's a Texas farm truck that my Grandfather bought in '78, then my Dad bought him an '83 1/2 ton Silverado in '96 that he still has, so the old 70 was put out in the field and sat idle till last year when I started working on it. I'll try to get some pics of my truck, it's definetly a work-in-progress rig. Right now it's got bondo and primer all over it.

Sounds to me like a major vacuum leak. Be sure you didn't knock off the vacuum modulator line at the back of the intake, and make sure the carb is sealed well against the intake. I had the exact same problem with a 78 F100 that I was working on....the carb base gasket didn't seal well to the intake, so it wouldn't idle, but it'd run fine when I was on the gas. I replaced the base gasket, snugged down the carb, and it ran perfect after that.

OK, thanks. I'll check that too. I replaced every hose in the engine compartment so it's either a mixture problem or a leak like you said.
