prepping new motor for paint
finally received my new motor from GMPP, I need to prep it for paint, what should i use to pre clean the motor before sanding? Looking for an aerosol that wont leave a residue.

I would suggest a wax/grease remover (available at your auto paint supply store) before and after sanding. I'm not sure if it comes in aerosol, though.

From what I've heard before on this board:
Go to the dollar store and buy the cheapest oven cleaner you can find. A few cans will eat right through everything, including grease and paint.

Yep, Dollar General oven cleaner. Works great. I tried all kinds of degreasers on my stuff, tranny-trans, the oven cleaner was the only thing to take it off.

i don't see any need for the use of caustic oven cleaner on a new engine

lacquuer thinner and scotch brite if you think it needs it
Alot of times i just spray over exsisting paint as long as its stuck and feathered out if its chipping. |

I load my paint gun with laquer thinner and turn the pressure up real high and spray the hell out of the engine. The excess drips off onto a pan under the engine stand. Laquer thinner is an excellent solvent and will remove any oils on there now.
Then, I use the POR-15 engine paint kit. The end result is bombproof.
