3/4 ton ---> 1/2 ton, frames the same?

I got the following question from a visitor at 73-87.com....

Hi I hope you can help me or know someone who can.I have wrote a number of truck forums and have got so many different answers to the same question.Well here it is.I want to change my C20 to a C10 for many reasons and wanted to know if I can change the rear diff and springs and the front suspension arms,rotors calipers ect or do I have to change the whole frame.I would like to keep my frame as it is straight and solid.Also is a suburban frame the same as a pickup?

I am pretty sure the frames are identical, but before I tell him this (or show him the thread), I wanted to hear from you guys.

Let me hear what you know.

the frames are the same. the suburban frame is much different than the truck frame though.

Yes, I knew that...it was just the 3/4 to 1/2 ton frame comparison I am/was unsure of.

Man i done thought you ran into problems with your mounts BTW Did you ever get them in?

I'm fairly sure that the 3/4 ton and 1/2 ton frames are the same -- Just that a 1/2 ton has a much lighter suspension / drivetrain...

1 ton frames are different like suburban and van frames though...

I haven't pulled out the 454 yet, but I got those mounts all cleaned up and ready to go. I am going to compare them to the ones I have in there now before I drop the engine back in...I will keep you posted though.

i didn't change the mounts on my frame when i droped in my big block to replace my 305. but on another note, i think it would be alot easyer just to find a good 1/2 ton frame than trying to convert a 3/4 to a 1/2.
