Radio Patch Panel
What's the interest on radio repair/patch panels...? For our trucks/blazers.
Something that will repair the ever present 'cut' dash. I think I may be able to get these produced but I need to figure out some numbers to see if it's a viable effort. Let me know please. :p Ideas on what might be the 'perfect' patch panel are welcome... |

Repair Panel
It would be for repair, as in back to original.
A part that would "make it right" again. Trying to figure out if there'd be any demand for such a thing. |

Exact reason for the thread...more numbers = less cost per.

We are close to having them done. We sent out a good 68-72 dash center section about 6 months ago to have them reproduced. I hope to have the first prototype here in a few weaks. WES www.ClassicHeartbeat.com

Just curious (as I have absolutely zero interest in a stock dash )... where'd you make the cuts? I'm thinking it would be good to have the patch panel go a couple of inches into the bezel and glove box areas. It would make for a more expensive panel due to additional bends, but it would be a much easier repair to cut in.

That is exactly where I cut the dash. Under the dash bezel and glove box lid. Then about center point in the slots under the dash pad. WES www.ClassicHeartbeat.com

If it has factory A/C it should have the center vent. Sounds like someone may have converted a non A/C dash. It isn't hard to cut the holes for one. WES www.ClassicHeartbeat.com

Well not so far. I will have to talk to the manufacturer and see what they think. It would have to be a large seller because the cost of the tooling would be great. It may verry well be an expencive peice also, for that verry same reason. How many would buy one if it were priced around $150.00. Most guys would rather cut the holes in the dash. But we will see. I will watch this thread and see where it goes. WES www.ClassicHeartbeat.com

About 10 years ago, I bought a 72 4x4 Blazer from the orig owner with factory air. It only had the laft and right vents also. No center vent. I have seen a few others that way and the owners claim they came that way. It may just be a GM thing. rare???? Who knows....

you might check behind the inside part of the heater core cover and see if the correct pattern is cut in the firewall. If it is raw obviously not original, or if piece has been tacked in. Also check for the relay located near the cigarette lighter. Should be bolted with a phillips screw with star type washer at the head. Might check the fesh air vent on the passenger side to see if the pull off spring is still there/ever there. Just a thought, maybe it will help, and maybe it IS a rare screw up limited to a specific factory, which would be really cool to know, sort of like the trucks in a previous post with the bolt indentation in the heater core covers, what are the chances????

If you are going to reproduce a radio hole for the dash, why not hve one that a modern radio will fit in too. It would be nice to have one that had a stock look to it but with the wider rectangle.

Radio patch:excellent idea.I never understood people going through all the work to install an A/C dash.Listen!"just cut the holes!"The important difference between A/C & non-A/C cabs is the firewall. That can be made to work, too. You don`t see it.But why?If it`s not an original A/C truck and you want A/C,get a modern system from Vintage Air or Old Air Products. The original equipment won`t be original to your truck, costs more to do,harder to do,and it`s old.The only cutting is for vents and they can be original.
