Door keys

Should I spend my time replacing the tumblers in my doors, or go ahead and go to the dealership with my title and get a key made?(if they still do that?). I'd like to get some input on how hard it is to replace the tumblers, and if GM still cuts keys for trucks that old (69)?

Changing the door locks is not a big deal. You can get a package from most vendors with the ignition an door locks.

Door handles and panel needs to come off the inside. The locks are held in with a little c-clip. just pay attention to how the lever works on it so u can install it back the same way. Its easy. Ingnition comes out with a small wire and turning to the right as u push on the wire.

Thanks for the help Mudder, I think i'll just go ahead and order the new locks and the new switch, so I can toss the locks in the door while the doors are off of the truck.

Another thought would be what I did. Go to your local locksmith and have the door lock pins changed to match your ignition. One key for ignition and doors, only a few dollars in cost.

If you have the door lock code for cutting a key, any locksmith should be able to cut a key for you.

Dealerships will usually cost more.

Use to do Locksmith work.
