redoing bed and tailpan

I am redoing bed and tailpan of my 86 do to rot and was wondering if anyone here has ever redone there blazer bed and tailpan with steel tubing and stanless sheet metal rather than the aftermarket patch panels and aftermarket tailpan . I am hoping this will keep rust from eating away for a very very long time and was wondering how much hassle this will be if anyone else had attempted before thx Doc
