What dod you get done this weekend??
Just wondering what everyone achieved on their projects this weekend. I put on about 80 miles this weekend trying to get thru this break in period with the rebuilt 350. My foot is itching to press that pedal harder, but I have to be patient and wait till she's broken in I only have another 75 miles to go before I hot the 500 mile mark. Then I will change the oil, and take it for a cruise down the highway a bit and see how she does.

WOW man I love that anticipation you get espsecially around 400 miles :-) I just hit 900 miles on my re-build and I love every minute of it!!
This weekend I got a new alternator, voltage regulator, and charged my battery. Then got a new alternator upper bracket arm, and now my truck charges good!! finally:-} and I also got new brake pads, and re tensioned my parking al is good here north FL.

Went to the local salvage (always a good way to spend Saturday morning!) and grabbed the whole serpentine setup for our '69 project. I found one with the steel bracket setup, which IMO should be much more sturdy that the cast ones, which I've known to crack/break.
I took lots of pics, so I'll know how to put the monster back together...it was bolted to virtually everything except the firewall! Now to clean it up & paint for mounting. The engine is orange (it's the one in the avatar)...opinions on color? SSOW

Went down in the field to the '72 parts truck and robbed the brake booster and bracket for my '69 project. Gotta paint it before I bolt it on. Gonna' run power drums for a while, then go to discs later. ANYONE need a parts/project truck? '72 short/fleetside. It's all there minus the booster and drive shaft. Front discs, five lug w/ralleys. 250 inline w/3-speed on column. Around $300 (or best offer) will take 'er home. I'll put her on the parts board sometime when I get a chance.

I got nothing done but did get a bunch of idea's from Hot August Night's... And spent a bunch of $$$$$$ at the summit retail store....

Not a darn thing other than replacing a halogen light fixture in my barn. That barely counts. Hope to get some stuff done on the Blazer this week.

Worked a few hours Saturday on my fuel lines, I've got to buy a few more fittings and connect them to the fuel tank, and they'll be done. Sunday, watched NASCAR most of the day.

I spent some time on the 71 c30 motorhome. I just removed the old tri-color shag carpeting and installed a floating snap together red oak floor. Looks sweet! While doing that I also found a structural problem caused by water getting in at the propane tank cabinet. It took close to 8 hours to pull the bad wood, cut and install the new wood and make it better than it ever was from the factory. That 2' x 2' corner should be good for another 30 years. All this work reminded me to be tolerant of those who destroy these old campers. The thought certainly crossed my mind a few times that day. 30 year old hidden water problems are a royal pain.

I relocated the fence in my backyard....
...so the tree guys could come and remove a few trees and stumps... ...so the grading guys could come and re-grade the area... ..so the builders could come and build me a new garage/shop... ...so I can have a good place to work on my project. LOL. I never thought fixing up an old truck would involve a shovel, posthole diggers, and chainsaws.......... |

I went to work on finding out why I had to speedo (it's been like that since I bought it about 9 months ago but tach ended up no longer working so I had no idea what speed I was going) and come to find out after I spun the speedo cable it was not broke and then I realize there was no oil on the cable so that made me thing that they didn't have the cable in the hole correct so I installed it correct and bam! I have a speedo. I love those type of fixes
I also recieved a 71-72 front bumper for my 69 and installed that except the outer most brackets don't line up. Was there a difference between the two brackets/two year styles?

Didn't get a darned thing done on my truck, but did finish the go-kart project for my daughters. I think they like it, as I can't get them off of it!

I bought & installed a used gas tank, new blinker switch & removed the 35 year old hard grease & re-lubed up the shifter, shifts like a hot knife thru butter now. Brian

Cleaned up and painted my a-arms, replace all the balljoints and bushings, welded in 1/8 steel to my new axle saddles so they will fit my tube, replace my trailing arm bushings... man that wasnt fun burning the old ones out.
Officially started the restore part of my project since I actually bolted a piece back on. One upper a-arm is on. Wooo! Plans for next weekend are to get the rearend back in and mount up the gas tank. I may get stuck as my buddy has my spindles and is working on a bracket to mount up C5 calipers and rotors .

scored a cherry tailgate (new takeoff) at the carlisle pa swap meet. WAS THERE ON FRIDAY SO YA KNOW THERE WASNT MUCH ROOM FOR BARGINING ON THE GATE PAID OUT THE A$$ , WHO CARES IM HAPPY. and emptyed my pockets at TRUCK PARTS ,GMC PAULS AND ATHEYS BROUGHT A WHOLE TRUCK LOAD OF NEW PARTS HOME . NOW IF I CAN GET SOME CHERRY 72 DOORS AND BED SIDES AT THE FALL MEETS ILL BE SET. AND PUT IN 24 HRS AT WORK SAT AND SUNDAY OVERTIME ROCKS

I worked all day and all night Saturday so I could paint my firewall and inner fenders. The hardner I had was a 70 degree max temp. I had to stay up since I could not paint past 9:30-!0:00 a.m. it was projected to hit 100. Wife thought I was crazy. After clean-up got to bed at 09:00 Sunday and slept til 14:00. Did'nt touch the truck any more when I got up either.

I had sort of a set-back.
The machine shop guy said I'd have my 383 back in time to install it over the 4th of July. I've had the hood and RF fender and inner fender off since then. Once the 4th of August rolled by I figured out where I stand. I can't tie up that garage stall any longer so I put the sheet metal back on my truck and PUSHED it outside to free up space.

dubie, every engine ive ever rebuilt has been floored within first 100 miles. i just break in cam and go. ive rebuilt 15 + engines and never had any probs with flooring in first 100 miles and they've all lasted till i either sold car or pulled them out to go in another car. if it blows up in first 100 miles it aint gonna make it anyway.
forgot to add i had my 96 vette up to 165 mph before its first 500 miles back in 96 and its got 52000 miles on it now and still purrs like a kitten.

I drank beer and chased the old lady around the house all weekend.
Not much done on the truck. Still finishing out the basement, need to get a toilet and fan for the bathroom, then I'm out of that mess. Got my cam & intake in last week, E-tec heads should be here today, I'm told.

I picked up the frame from a friend that was going to throw it out-all rusty, but complete. Got to spend some quality time in the garage with my daughters, sanding, priming, painting, upholstering, assembling and tuning. The second pic makes it all worth while! The engine is a B&S 5HP. Top speed currently is ~25-30 mph. It has two throttle limiters that I need to set tonight to keep those smiling faces smiling. Most horizontal shaft engines (except the gear reduction ones) will make a good kart engine.

Very cool looking project. Thats pretty damn fast for a small go kart too. The engine i have is a 440cc BSE out of my 75 Olympic sled and in the sled it will do over 65 MPH so it would make a pretty hairy go kart engine. I just have to figure out all the how to piece it all together now

My son (orangueuavol) and I worked on his engine for his 72 Blazer. This is his 1st engine to build-he does the work,I give advice . It is a 402 that came out of my truck. We had it bored .030 over (408 CID)-cam is a Clevite with 214-224 dur. @ .050 (adv. 280-290) with .503-.528 lift.(112 LSA) Only had to polish crank for standard bearings. Edlebrock Performer manifold with Q-Jet-new HEI dist.-Harland Sharp roller rockers-double roller timing chain-Speedpro flattop pistons-moly rings. Don't know who is more excited (he or me) to hear it run. I have rig that serves as a motor stand and run in stand that I made. Will show a picture of it when we break the engine in on it.

Completed the disc up front conversion.
Installed power steering on a manual steering truck. Washed the engine and body then... I DROVE THE TRUCK!
