SWB Driveshaft
Anybody in the DFW area have a SWB driveshaft they have laying around??? Picking up a 71 SWB Frame but i need a driveshaft, or if someone can tell me what other driveshafts (from other years) will fit our trucks....

Hey Dallas!
Getting one newly fabbed is a simple solution to your problem. I have a 71 SWB that had a dinged-up shaft (One Piece unit-NO carrier bearing to deal with!) and had a new one made, and balanced, for mine. Set me back $170 (new U-Joints included)....and worth every penny. Back when I was researching swapping mine I read a thread that said all the LWB's had 2-piece/carrier bearing setups.....but SWB's came in both 1 or 2 piece setups. Not clear on why this may have been the case...but my particular truck showd no signs of ever having had a carrier bearing installed. My driveline tech said the limit on a 1-piece would between 65-75 inches....because longer shafts tended to 'whip' at speed. Check out the link I posted for more details about the swap.. Mine turned out to be 62.5 inches....but is made of a thicker-walled tubing the OEM units (race care stuff) so he guaranteed it not to be a problem. So far, he's right. Plenty of clearance...and smooth as silk!

Dallas......
Use Ft Worth Gear and Axle. They are close to you. They do all of my driveshafts. Mine was 200 bucks total for a brand new 1 piece shaft with new yoke too. The yoke cost 60 of the 200 bucks alone. One day to make it too.
