High speed speedo shot re-revisited
Some how, this doesn't seem nearly as cool as the ones I've posted in the past.
WTH is up with an 85 MPH speedo anyways? Lets see your speedo pics. |

It doesn't take 2 hands to hold the wheel, so I just grab the camera, and hold it down there and take 3 or 4 pics. What ever one comes out good is the one I keep.

you mean the "stinking lincon" will go that fast?!
I dont have a pic but years ago I had a '77 Impala with a HEALTHY 406 & 2.14:1 gears. on a dare from a local cop-buddy I got clocked at 163 mph. it had a 4 on the floor & the needle would hit bottom of dash in the middle of 3rd! 1st gear I could do 75. ended up selling it for a 84 GP cruiser so I could stay alive.

I think 67CST takes the cake on this one: (okay so it's in Km/h - 205 still equals 127Mph! )

The fastest I've ever driven was if memory serves me correctly, about 165Km/h (102Mph) on the Coquihalla Hwy heading to Kelowna - in a little red 1986 Mercury Lynx! Hey, it had a 5spd and did haul some butt for such a little car! The car looked similar to this one except brighter red.
I would NEVER do it again - but I HAD to test the limit of the car! (ahh... those were the days, young, dumb, and full of....BEER! and no I wasn't full of beer while attempting such a dumb thing)

Fastest i've ever been wasn't in a car, but on a motorcycle. I was doing 165 MPH down the 15 freeway in California on my CBR 900RR. Holly Crap that was fast!

Coming north out of Atlanta in my Porsche 928s4 with a buddy, we ran up against a stonrg running corvette. We both ran flat out up to 168mph and then I did something he didn't plan on. I shifted into 5th gear-----bye, bye!!! Porsche, there is no substitute!! hehehehe My 97 C5 corvette would have beat the Porsche but this was in 95' and the vette had just the driver---and only one camshaft verses my 4, only 1 distributor verses my 2, and only 16 valves verses my 32!! And no I didn't take any pictures as my eyes were on the road and my hands were shaking too much to let any camera focus!

Fastest i've ever been was driving my 68 impala, doing about 136mph, IN SECOND GEAR, screaming down the highway at 5500rpm and passing cars like they were standing still.

I've gone 250KPH (I think that is around 155) in my old twin turbo RX7 when I lived in Japan, but thjat was on Fuji Speedway. Probably would have gone faster, but someone put a left turn in the way. Truthfully I'm not sure how much more I would have pushed it. It's a rush, but at that speed all kinds of things are happening and in the RX7 I always felt my butt was draging the pavement.

No pics (cuz my Buick has an 85 mph speedo also) but one of my buddies in an Acura Integra decided to race me, and I surprised him by keeping up. We maxed out at 130 mph on SR21 by my house (according to his speedo, mine needle was in the gear selector ) . My car has the 3.8 V6, TH4T60 OD transaxle, and 2.73 final drive.

Andy, you can't consider that stinkin lincoln a full pimp-ride anymore....it doesn't have the digital dash. My 85 had the digital dash with the "smack" option.....in other words you had to smack the top of the dash every once in a while to get it to work...

i had my old falcon at 175 mph once but that was on a dragstrip, fastest i ever got it off the strip was probably 120, fun car my dad built it with a dual 750 carbed 428 motor and all sorts of other goodies, it was a street legal drag car.

Some cool stories. Keep them coming.
As for the 85MPH speedo...this car is an 89, when the feds had already dropped the double nickle speed limit and bumped it up to 65 on limited access highways outside of city limits. I just hate them becouse 85 is common in this town on the freeways. TJ...I've done the digital dash once...the 'ole 92 @ss-10 POS blazer...smacking the dash didn't get it to work, nor did punching the dash. (I have a pic of it somewhere readin 130 or so I think) I never want to see LCD guages in my vehicle again...ever. |

I forgot to mention the flatbed I had about 4 years ago. '80 K20 with BFG farmer tires, healthy 355, SM465 Muncie & 3.73 gears. I hit 145 on the tri-state expressway in northern Ill. nothing like a super ugly flatbed rolling down the tollway passing everything in sight. brushed on Ford blue tractor paint & all!
certified red-neck!!!!

The fastest I've ever gone in a car was when I was driving my bro's '93 Acura Integra. I was going about 210 km/h (don't know what that works out in MPH tho) until I ran outta road...and boy do you run outta road fast at that speed!

100 KPH is about 62 MPH, so you were going over 120...that is movin pretty good. It's amazing how fast things in front of you end up behind you at these speeds.
*note...I do not condone this behavior*( |
