rough idle
Yesterday on the way home I started idling rough. If I let of the gas the truck would idle very very slow almost to the point where you could count off the plugs firing. When I give it gas it seems to hessitate slighly then then runs ruff unless I get on it pretty good. At 45 on up it runs fine.
When I got the truck from my dad it had a 2bbl carb. I replaced it with a Edelbrock intake with a 4bbl (all new). Does this sound like an issue with dirt in the carb or in the fuel line???? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Glenn

i'd say you've got a vaccume leak or a timing issue

I would say vaccume as well. not the safest way but you could take a can of wd40 and spray around the intake while the engin is running ( i would not do this on a hot motor )and see if it smoothes out at any one point. If so there is your leak. I bought a truck with what you described about 8 years ago for 200 dollars. what a bargan.

My red 72 has done that twice and it was the fuel filter. Seems the tank sat dry during resto and dried and flaked inside. I carry an extra filter with me now so it hasn't happened again!

It was the fuel filter.
Checked the only vacume line and it was OK. Sprayed cleaner everywhere no result. Replaced fuel filter....BINGO. BUT....I found a cracked valve cover that I gota replace now. UGH! Thanks for all the input. Glenn

I got the valve cover's replaced today along wiht a matching chrome water inlet tube. A little coolant spiled on the intake manifold but not much. After all was back together I cranked her up and she ran fine for @ 5-7 mins and then she started ideling real slow again.
I noticed around the intake manifold bolts a few very very small bubbles when I reved her up. What could this be a sign of? Getting Mad in Atlanta! Glenn

yikes!!! My first thought would be a cracked head. but may be it picked up trash again.I would check the filter and the gas sending unit on the tank as well before tearing into it the top half of the motor.

Thouse bubbles might just might be crank case pressure.

I would check your filter again, if it is clogged and replacing it fixs the problem. Drain the tank and flush it, with water and a good mix of mineral spirits. Then go buy a new filter that is clear gas and you can re-build it with a new filter. They are only like $10 more and they will save you time and money in the long run.
