tranny problem giving me a bad feeling
i dropped in my newly rebuilt turbo 350 and 350 engine about 4 months ago. then spent the last 4 months putting the engine together and finally fired it up about a week ago.
i ran the engine long enough to flush out my cooling system and tune my injection at idle. next step was to tune the idle in drive. i had about 4 qts of tranny fluid already in the torque converter so i put another 8 qts in through the filler. started her up and put it in drive, nothing happened. no shift at all. the only thing i noticed was the front driveshaft start spinning, then gradually stop when i put it back in nuetral. then if i paused for a second in reverse before continuing to park, there was a whining noise. i smell trouble. any suggestions? questions about where i might have went wrong? please dont tell me the trannys no good and have to pull it out

That sounds like a tought one. The only thought that comes to mind is the torque converter is not engaged in the front pump.

well it died the first time i put it in gear. it was just a little lean fuel mixture around that idle area but its all tuned and ready now.
the burn out pics will definitely be a while. i still have no fenders, doors or hood on
