Wink Yet another boring stock project underway

68 Suburban 1/2 ton 2wd, 3 row seating, 4:11 posi - Not a 50th

Was: 307 4 speed, Power drums, manual steering

Soon to be: 250 I6, 3 speed column shift (yes on the column), power drums, power steering, with 6 lug slots. The 'six" will be dressed out with correct PS pump/brackets/pulleys, oil bath air cleaner to accomodate the brake booster, and HEI.

The 250 and 3 speed manual is a 45K mile unit out of a 67.

The front end is torn down for new ball joints, tie rods, etc. It will remain 6 lug drums and lowering it will never be an option.

Thanks David

Did you notice the correct Jr West Coast mirrors? It was optioned with those from the factory, yet had lost them at some point

I did upgrade the radio. It's got a vintageaftermarket AM/FM/8 track, that fits in the stock opening

Actually the HEI and slots throw a wrench into that stock thing . I do have the correct 68 dog dish caps and points system however...

Paint? Why do that? I "overrestored" one, never again. If they are in my stable they get used as trucks. I'm not creating a museum here

I have West Coast Jr mirrors on my truck also. The top acorn nut seems too close to the drip rail on mine (almost touching). What amount of clearance do you have CPNE?

Building a small, high rpm engine with the perfect bore, stroke and rod ratio is very impressive.

Mine don't overlap the top of the door, so the clearance is whatever distance between door top and the drip rail is.

Are you saying the truck originally came with a 6cyl with 3 speed on column and you are getting rid of someones added 307 and 4 speed?

No it was a factory small block 307/4speed burb. It is being converted to a period-correct 6/3on-tree setup

To be REALLY stock you'll need the smog pump! Yes?

From what I've read/understand 68 1/2 tons with manual transmission had them.

I have seen one 3-speed/250 68 truck with the factory smog pump set up on it around here.

Sounds like fun. I am thinking about snatching the 350/350 out of mine and replacing it with a 250 and 3 speed before I let my boy have it. That way I don't have to worry about him speeding all over the place!
