dash disassembly?

I started to strip the inside of my cab tonight.
I got every thing out except he instrument cluster. For the life of me I can't get the wiper switch, headlamp switch or choke cable out of the dash
Heater is out, dash harness, wiper motor, dash pad (nice work not just cliping it in the top GM)

It looks like the switch bezels spin (there are two square holes in the face) but it doesn't apppear they do??

Any tips

Those chrome pieces are threaded. The wiper switch has a tiny screw under the knob. The headlight knob has to be pulled out and then you reach behind the bezel and press the button on top of the switch to pull the rod out. Also have to unplug the harness, disconnect speedo cable and oil line.

removal

here's what I use , if it helps. loose the little screw to remove the knob and the pliers to loose the thingy with the 2 holes in it. only thing left is a nut,9/16 I think, then the swithch will come out if you have it disconnected. the light switch has a little push botton on the top of it which you need to push down and at the same time pull thelight switch on, then the rod will come out with the knob on it. hope that helps.

looks like 70c10 responded as I was typing, but here ya go..........

There is a trick to removing the light handle/rod. First, you have to locate the button to release the rod. Pull the switch to turn the lights on, THEN depress the little button and the rod will come right out. If you depress the button then pull the rod from the off position it will not come out.

I got so mad until I figured this out.

Remember when you get the light switch rod out, your lights will be turned on.

yeah, you don't want to remove them like I did - with a pair of pliers!!! Now I have to look for a new light switch stem/knob, and a new wiper knob. Okay, the wiper knob was already toast but still.

DO IT THE PROPER WAY!!
