oil pressure guage install help needed

i have been putting a small block chevy in place of the straight 6 that came in the truck. i want to hook up the factory oil pressure guage, but the fitting on the line to the oil pressure guage is different than the hole in the block on the small block chevy that i put in.

does any one know the thread size of the oil pressure hole on a small block chevy? i guess that it is a pipe thread? but not sure of what size...

and does any one know the thread size of the line for the oil pressure guage, where it hooks up to the block on a straight 6?

i was wanting to go to the auto parts, or hardware store and buy an adapter fitting so i could use the stock oil press line for the straight six with the small block that i put in it.

i am sure some one has done this........

any suggestions

thanks

I can't help you just go and buy one,, But, Put a bolt in the First few threads of the block, NOTICE: I SAID THE FIRST FEW THREADS ONLY !!!! then find a nut you can do the same thing with for the oil line.. That will tell you what you need. Or just go down and buy a few of what you think it looks like.. Like I said, They're cheap and it will start you collection for future projects. Yes, It will be Pipe thread.

Thumbs up

The threads in the block behind the distributor are 1/8" pipe, and the threads in the back of the oil gauge are #2 compression. You should be able to buy a kit that has some plastic spagetti hose, along with the fittings you'll need. Hope this helps?

Both the 6 and the small block use the 1/8 npt threads. I always just unscrew the fitting out of the side of the block in the 6 and screw it into the small block. You are using the port next to the distributor on the small block aren't you?

txfirefighter,
i forgot to get the piece out of the block on the 6 cyl.........
i think i may have gotten what i need at the hardware store today. ......

it is a 1/8" pipe thread on one side and compression fitting on the other side.

haven't used it yet, or looked at it on the truck,

been dealing with sick and grumpy kids.

thanks
