70 c20 info?
I'm trying to find info on a 70 chevy c20. It has an extended bed,(9ft?). Was told it is a camper model. It has round ports on each side of the bed and the bed floor was original wood. Is it factory and where could I get parts? None of my catalogs even mention this truck. Thanks

Welcome to the board from central Ohio...where you at in the world?
What you have there is a Chevy Longhorn. The bed is actually 8 1/2 feet long. There is supposed to be longhorn badges in back by the rear side marker lights. The chassis is that of a one ton, the suspention is H.D.3/4 ton, the bed id a long fleet side with 6 inch extentions butt welded to the front panels, (front panel not made in repro) the wood is original and there are (expensive) kits for it. The rest of the truck is the same as every other truck. You now belong to an elete club (we wish)...longhorn owners are in a class above the rest. (not really) There were only about 24,442 built if memory serves (don't have my books/notes here). They were offered from March 11th of 68, untill the end of the 72 model run. They were offered in 3/4 ton and one ton models only. Take a look at the link in my signiture for my Longhorn website. Whats the details of your rig? |

Wow!! info overload, thanks.I love the site it's saved in my favorites. I'm in the Mtn's of Western NC.The truck has the original 350/3spd on the tree.It had the big rv mirrors, someone took them off.Pwr steering and brakes,no a/c.The body is in great shape except the bed floor. What are the 2 ports in the bed for?I saw that on 1 of the pix of a 72 on your site.

The port...is it towards the front of the bed, and maybe the size of a gas cap?
Also lokk on the floor between the drivers seat and the drivers door for a brass valve. I'm thinking it is from extra fuel tanks. |

Exactly, and yes there is a valve there. Were these tanks removable?I wish I could see a pix of it.I can't believe I've never seen one of these trucks out of all the 67-72 I've looked at and owned.

yeah, they come off. They were probably removed becouse no one can afford to buy 60 gallons of fuel, and the tanks got all nasty.
That's why I pulled mine. Plus the door was fugly...but mine had another style door than what you describe. |
