Different wiring harnesses - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I am making a list of the things I need to do for my truck and one of them is wiring. What's your opinion about different brands of wiring harnesses? their prices varies alot. I am talking about Painless, EZ-wiring and keep it clean wiring. It seems EZ wiring is the cheapest. I am not good at wiring and electrical therefore I need something with easy instruction.

If you're looking for easy look at the M&H harness. I've used a number of them on these trucks and they fit and are a breeze to install. Everything is like original and there is no cutting. If you're doing something more custom with aftermarket accesories like windows or door locks then look at Painless

My vote is for Ron Francis Wiring.

I bought the Painless 68-72 harness and the a/c add-on- it was a pretty easy install- instructions were pretty straightforward and the tech line is an 800# and the guys there are pretty knowledgable- I bought it because I thought the fuse block would go in the original hole- well, it did- but I had to enlarge it first to fir- that was the only drawback- set up for voltage regulator, single wire alt, points disty, HEI, ready for most anything. I would have spent the extra money on a ron francis had I not seen the Painless chevy truck harness. Good luck- wiring isn't that hard- getting a good ground is.

If you are looking for just plug in simple, the Painless kit does not quite do it. You have to shape, route, tape and secure the harness and terminate a lot of connections. Like Kleantouch said, it is set up for lots of accessories that are not in these trucks. You gotta figure out what you want to keep and store for future use and what you want to flat out remove. If you are not one for electrics, try something that is allready fabbed up so you just have to remove and replace. Wish I could help you with name brands but Painless was all I looked into. I was foolish just thinking the major name-brand Painless was "the $h!t". Had I to do it all over I would have weighed my alternatives like you.

I have heard very good thing's about the ron francis harness' never installed one but have seen the in a number of street rod's and they all looked of very good quality...

M&H has got it "wired." They are American made, perfect stock hook ups, and the technician who builds your harness, actually puts his name on the loom.
