WOW! I'd make a long roadtrip for that tailgate any day.

yes...

castiron9...

Well, the wife was even impressed at how good it looked, but probably not THAT impressed!

chickenwing...

Yes, when the PO had the truck painted, the tailgate was painted along with the rest of the truck even though he wasn't using the tailgate due to the camper he had loaded in the bed. There is not even a SINGLE scratch on the gate, since it wasn't ever used.

The only thing I will tend to is the letters that were hand painted with some thick black paint that seems as though it might start to flake off. I plan on laying the bed flat and getting the black removed carefully with some chemical stripper, then repainting with white or silver, which will better match the subtle look I'm trying to achieve with the truck.

(trip thread: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s....php3?t=121130)

Yes, it was definitely worth the trip IMHO.

I would have done the same, that tailgate is sweet. I once followed this old to a Kmart parking lot, just to ask him if he still had his original tailgate, his 72 3/4 ton with a full camper on the back looked brand new, he still had the new take off tailgate in his garage at home took it off 3 weeks after he bought the truck new, but was unwilling to part with it, O well you never know.

Sounds like a good way to ruin a nice paint job. Try a test area and see how stable the yellow is using lacquer thinner. If the thinner doesn't effect the yellow, then test it on the black. My guess is it will take the black right off. Mask the area around the letters before you try to strip it with thinner.....

Would do and have done (that and more) for the RIGHT gal, think I even did it once or twice for the WRONG gal... yikes!

Ring finger (and everything else) is currently claimed by the best woman on earth, so you'll have to keep a keen eye out for another "Chevy lover" with some SICK dedication!

So in my venture across 2/3 of the state, did my step-daughter and I pass through your neck of the woods? :p

Sorry, little distracted by the "other" post... What about acetone? You are right, I should have thought about something a bit more mild first, good idea.

THANKS!
