Post Woo-Hoo found a complete disc brake fr/end!

Its coming together....I found a guy wrecking a '76 C-20 and he is going to just cut off the front of the frame behind the steering parts and sell it all to me for $75 (Canadian)

So I was wondering, should I just stick with my original A-arms or would you guys recommend using the newer A-arms off of the '76 as well? I have to replace the control arms bushings/shafts in mine anyway, so they still have to come off.

Also what springs to use? My original or the newer ones?

What is best?

Reid

Good deal, its best to have all the parts rather than piecing. I would use the lower a arms for sure(due to steer stop,& turn radius issues). You can opt to rebuild the 76 pcs, & install them on your crossmember,& may end up using the 76 center link. as far as springs, I cant say for sure, but was told by a local spring shop that the top spring pocket was different on the 73 up. Good luck.....69 longhorn.

Thanks man, 71Chev is selling me a correct power booster & master cylinder to make the swap complete. It will be great to have it all powered and disced up!! Should drive like a new truck. (Well almost!)

Oh, one more thing, will the original style brake hoses bolt up to the '76 calipers? Or is that something I need to update as well?

You can use the complete crossmember, but it isnt an exact bolt in(eng mount stand holes will be different),& i think some of the holes will have to be egged to bolt it to the frame. On the brakes end,I used 75 pcs on the longhorn,& also the prop valve, lines & hoses, master. The 76 hoses will mount through the frame(just drill a hole),& also have a bracket to mount them to the top A arm.....69 longhorn.

FYI...
I took a 1980 front end and the whole thing bolted for the most part right into place. This gives you better PM ability, a variable steering box which is better, 5 lug disc brakes, etc. I put new 2 1/2 drop spindles plus new shocks and springs on mine. I took the axel shaft out of a 72 and exchanged it for my 6 lug 70 shaft.
