Light truck?
After driving my truck for almost a week I realized what it is that feels different. It feels a lot lighter to drive than my dads 82. I know power steering throws you off, but it just feels weird. When I go into a corner at 40 it just feels really light. The thing stops on a dime and picks up that extra 15 mph to pass people damn quick. Is a 72 lighter than an 82? Oh well. And what kinda RPM do you guys turn on the highway around 70 mph? Guys with a 350/th400 anyway

sb406/th350 at 70 i am around 3500 with a 3.73 rear. i ran my truck over the scales and it came in around 3900lbs. i think it might have something to do with older softer worn out springs and shocks. just a guess

If you have a small block and automatic, then you probably have a 3.07 gear which would put your RPMs right about 2500 @ 60 MPH
These trucks handle better than the 73 & up, that may be what you are feeling. |

Must be. It came with a V6 from the factory (don't know what at the moment) and I turn around 3 grand like the others.

if it is a chevy, then it was an inline 6...only GMC trucks had v 6 motors.
3000 RPM sounds like 3.73's to me. |

It has a 12 bolt rear though, so?

12 bolts could have had 3.07's (V8), or 3.73 (I6) in 67-72 standard I believe. Just because it's a 12 bolt doesn't mean that it has a particular gear in it.

Pop the cover off the rear and count the teeth. The oil is probably 20 years old in there anyways. |

It seems that my truck came in somewhere around 4000 lbs, with my fat butt in the seat....heck, coulda been even more.
My truck has 3.07 gears, as stock. With the TH400, I have no idea how many RPM's it is turning at 60MPH, but there's still some pedal left, if I want to use it. As for cornering, you gotta remember that the setup for coil spring suspensions, is what NASCAR uses on their race cars...same type of trailing arms, that is. With some lowering, it just gets better and better!!
