Wrong gas tank filler neck gasket?
I recently pulled my gas tank (behind the seat in a '70 C-10) & went to put it in today & noticed the gasket I bought from ChevyDuty is not exactly the same as the one I removed. The "original" gasket was much thicker. The inner neck that seals the gas tank neck is larger than the gas tank neck.
The gas tank is probably not original. Has anyone else here had this problem & what to do next / where to find a better fitting gasket? Thanks Everyone,

Go to your local chevy dealer and order the org. one . I got mine the other day and it was less than 7.00.

I think Piston on this board had an issue with an aftermarket filler neck grommet as well, and I think a few others have too. It seems the aftermarket ones just don't fit as well.

Do you have a part # or know where I could find one. I've been to both Gm dealerships in the area & they are completely clueless on anything pre-73. No books, no computer diagrams, not even descriptions. Arrrgh!

Here is the GM part number.....3978799 It's still a good number and you can get it through any GM dealer. This is for the 1971 model.

Graywolf, If you need this for the 70' in your signature, I believe the 71 and 72 were different diameters than earlier years.
