Location of Stereo Wiring

where does every one have there stereo hooked up becuse mine is hooked up in the fuse block but when eve i throw it in any gear it turns off it flickers but its fine on idle where should i have it connected?

You still have the crappy stock externally regulated deal on there don't you?

no, i have the internal regulated one from an 86 silverado should be 94 amps

Hmmm, I've never had problems hooking to the fuse box either.
I would double check all connections and all that jazz...sounds kinda funny though.

take the fuse out and scrape the holding tabs for the fuse.......
they have rust on them.....

mine did the same thing.....drove me crazy......

Yellow memory wire straight to the battery,and the red power wire to the fuse block,not even a wine from the alternator.

With the ground problem last week,do you have a good ground going on?

As a side note, most alt wine is from poor grounds, or a 'dirty ground'.

I'm running the stock AM radio in my truck with the stock externally regulated alternator, everything works like it should. If you have an aftermarket radio do what Brainchild said, then it should work fine.

I don't have a fancy stereo in the truck, but in my olds, I have the memory wire hooked up to a BATT plug on the fuse box, and the power wire is hooked to an accessory plug. No problems there. Also, for the extra gauge's lighting, I just stuck that in where the dash light and buzzer is plugged in from the factory. Upgraded the fuse to a 25 though, just to be safe. If I remember right, the accessory plug I used for my stereo runs into the cruise control circuit, but it works regardless of what I do with the cruise (disconnected at the moment).

I had the same problem. Cleaned the fuses and checked the ground connections. After that had no more problems.

Since then I have installed an aux battery with it's own fuse block for the stereo and CB radio.

My power cable for the amps run right to the battery. Its all fused. (Quiet pricey). The head unit and changer are hooked to the fuse box. No noise.

I had the exact same problem when I was daily driving my 68. If you moved the shifter, the radio would go nuts, as well as the headlights. All I did was run a large ground wire from the engine to the frame, and from the engine to the cab. That took care of it. Best of luck.
