Dash swapout

I am planning to change out the dash to add factory air. Any tips from anyone who has changed the dash would be appreciated. Thanks!

dash remove

There are 2 bolts at each end under the dash. After that you have 2 options. (1) Remove the dashpad & cut between the slots carefully. (2) Remove the windshield & drill out the 40 or so spot welds that hold the dash in place. If you're in a hurry, #1 is the fastest. If you have alot of time & PATIENCE, #2 is the correct way IMO. Either way, there is welding involved to put the "new" one back in.

ZOOMY's right.. I removed an A/C dash from a Junkyard donor.. I didn't have the right drill bit.. I forgot what you call it, I bought one from Piston.. I never did put the dash in my Truck, it's sitting where all of the other, "Maybe to do" things I have. If I were going to do the Retro. to an A/C dash, I would definitely cut the dash under the dash pad.. This is an area that is always covered and you wouldn't have to finish it perfect, Just smooth the welds..And you don't have to remove the windshield.... OR, I have never seen this done, But a Few of the board members have stated they just cut the holes in the dash for the A/C outlets..

Its a pain, but if you have the windshield out or dont mind pulling it other wise cut it under the pad.

Actually I learned this weekend that on my spare '71 dash there were 3 bolts on each end. Look very carefully before you frustrate yourself trying to cut the last 2 bolts only to realize they are bolts, not spot welds.

I cut the holes in mine insted of swaping the hole dash. It was prity easy. I used a coping saw and a drill. Just a couple of hours.
