Hello I have a 1964 chevy c-20 2wd custom pickup and would like to know what I need to do to convert the 2wd to a 4wd and what donor truck I should use for this? also where can i get a lift kit for my truck?
Thanks for help, jr. |

It has pretty much been determined here that its easier to swap you body over onto a 4x4 chassis. You can swap the parts over from a donor but its a pretty big job. Tuff Country lifts are pretty popular here and can be found in all 4wheel drive magzines or most 4x4 suppliers on the net.

I did look at the tuff country lift kits but they dont have one for the year of my truck also I have coil spring suspension. How big of a job is it? Like what needs to be done.
thanks. |

In my opinion, converting a 2wd to a 4wd chassis is totally the wrong way to get a 4x4, unless you want to do it for a challenge, or to say u did it. There is a HUGE number of things you would have to change, front and rear suspension, including steering, transmission.... it would be much easier to swap the body onto a 4x4 chassis, or even easier, just buy a 4x4 if thats what you want

"good highway gears" and a heavy 3/4 ton truck are a bad idea.

--- I agree with dregs, the hassle is just not worth it. 4x4 trucks (or even better yet, cheap stripped 4x4 frames) are not rare or anything. Good luck.

Anyone ever put the 64-66 swb 2Wd body on a 73-87 swb 4X4 frame?
