Rear Frame Rehab/Resto
I finally got around to pulling the bed of my truck and cleaning things up. You will have to pardon the use of wheels as jack stands but I used mine to support the bed. I have had the overload springs and new coil springs for a couple of years now. Everything disassembled better than I figured. I only had to cut one axle u-bolt. I used Eastwood Rust Inhibitor Paint on the frame. Now for a new exhaust pipe. Hopefully these pics will post.

Looks good. How did the eastwood paint go on? I have been up in the air about it or POR15. What did you think about sprayability etc? Is it worth the money and can it be top coated?

hey jjr that looks sweet. please share with us on how you like it and how it applied (spray/brush). i want to use this stuff for my frame and this would help alot, thanks, eric.

Thanks for the comments. I brushed the paint on. At first I used the cheap sponge type brushes but they fell apart quickly. I ended up using a cheap nylon 1" and 2" brush to finish it (I did not want to try to clean an expensive brush). The paint went on smooth and dried evenly. Time will tell on how it holds up. I did not put a top coat on it (Eastwood says it is not needed). As far as preping, I just scuffed the frame with 80-150 sandpaper to knock the dirt/surface rust down and wiped it down with laquer thinner. I was able to take the trailing arms to work to put them in a plastic media glovebox unit (the sandblast unit is to small). It cleaned them good enough to paint.
A while ago, I signed up to Eastwood's e-mail list and they send sale flyers about once a week. They have a 15% off sale on the rust encapsulator paint right now (a quart goes for $25.99 instead of $29.99) . I have read articles that some people like the Eastwood stuff better than POR-15. I have friends that have used both and they tend to like the Eastwood stuff better but they can get POR-15 locally so it ends up being a little cheaper. I got some of the paint on me and I was able to get it off without taking a layer of skin off (I have heard POR-15 is not so forgiving). Now I need to tear into the front end (I have had those parts around for years also).

In my opinion (IMO) everthing leveled out fine. Believe it or not, you are hard pressed not to think it was sprayed on IMO. I did not do a show quality prep job because my truck will never be a show quality truck. I think you will be happy with the Eastwood product.
I have used about 2/3 of a quart to do what you see (but I probably went alittle on the thick side). I would think it would take alittle over a quart to do the whole frame. I would buy a quart and see how far you can make it go. You can always buy more later.

also I do like your jacking system..the really funny part is mine is the opposite. my box is on the tires...lol |
