How do I know my engine came with the rig?
From the factory. Somebody just mentioned to me that it doesn't look like a 350. The blazer does say 350 on it but that's irrelevant. The guy I got it from said it was a 307, but he didn't know either, so we guessed it as a 350. I'm new to all this...anybody know how I can do this? By taking the numbers off the engine or something?

Yeah, the #s on the block will get you there. There's sites that have the breakdowns of the #s. I don't have them, but I bet if you posted the block #s someone here will hook you up!

IIRC there is a flat spot back by the distributor on the driver side that has the #s stamped into it. I think it's stamped somewhere else as well but I could be wrong... haven't played with my toys in quite some time

Just looked at your pics again, and that's the same side my alt is on. Of course, mine has a swapped in 305 so...I guess that doesn't help!

When you stand in front of the engine on the left side just below the Head there is a flat spot when GM but a code. it shold have some numbers and three letters. the letters are what will help you find out what is should be.
In my case I have a 350 block but someone put 327/283 heads on it.

There is also a casting number on the block behind the driver side head. This cast number tells you what the engine is but not necessarly which vehicle it originally came in. Many of our trucks have a casting number ending in 0010. These 350 engines are all 4 bolt main bearing blocks with high nickle content in the casting. They make for excellent engines -example being how many are still running after 30+ years. Excellent for rebuild and performance upgrading.

Not to stir up anything, but the 0010 block came in 2 or 4 bolt mains from 69-79, truck or car...
