Advantage to 305 heads?
What is the advantage of using 305 heads on a 350? I know a couple guys running that setup and was curious about the advantages/disadvantages

Ask them what they are smoking, because there really arent advantages. I know some LS1 guys run 5.3 heads to bump compression, but thats because of the computer.
Anybody can change some pistons and have higher compression that way on a carbed motor. 305 heads will flow a TON less than 350 heads.

I dont really see the logic in it. I understand if that's what or all your can afford (good deal on them or something). All I have ever seen people talk about is the added compression from them. But the heads dont flow all that well, it will work but dont expect anything special out of it. So all the advantages are pretty much canceled out by the negatives. The swirl port tbi heads unless worked over are not all the good either. Kind of a loaded question not knowing your intentions for the heads or application.

Depending on casting number, they can work well. I would only use the 416 or 601 castings though, if I wanted to retain the perimeter style valve covers. Plenty of info here...
