Original Tach, changed to electronic distributor

I installed an original in cluster tach in my 72 K20, but someone before me installed an electronic distributor, in theory should the tach work with this distributor, I also installed the circuit wiring for the tach cluster. Now when the engine starts the tach reads 750 RPMs but sits there no matter how the engine RPM's change.

The tach should work with your electronic distributor. Make sure the tach has 12 volts to it and the case/instrument housing is grounded properly.

Does you distributor have a terminal for the tach connection?

We haven't left the garage yet, but the factory tach in the k20 is connected to a HEI distributor and works fine, up to 2500 anyway...that's as far as me and Bry have revved it!!

Yes the distributor has terminal marked tach I am checking the 12 volts and ground. If these prove to be OK is their a rebuild for the tach or do I send it somewhere to be rebuilt? With the engine running, shouldI get a voltage or amp reading from the output termial on the distributor?
