What model truck do I have???
This might seem like a simple questions to you more experienced guys. I am new to the truck scene, and just bought a 71 chevy LWB. I don't know what the model is, I am not sure how to tell. There are no emblems on it, no door panels, just a plain black seat. What are the "clues" to tell me what it is?? On the title it says that the model is GS1, what does this mean?? The VIN is CS1411615200. So this means that it was originally a six cylinder with a TH350 right?? Is there any way to see what gear ratio I have too, without taking off the cover?? Also, my uncle gave more some door panels. They are black with woodgrain on them. They are not completey flat, seem to be molded plastic. What did these come out of?? I need armrests for those door panels if anybody has some. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Travis

Door panels
The door panels sound like 72's. They can be made to fit but require different door remotes and window regulators due to increased depth of the panels.

Bob, are you saying that 72's have a different door on the inside??

Judging by the re-enforcement screw under the vent window on the door I'd say you have a '72 there. It also has the plastic fasteners for the door panels too.

Does your rear-view mirror attach to the windshield or does it have an arm that attaches to the inside of the roof?

It has an arm, but I am thinking that it might be home made. Can you get a picture of the factory rearview mirror with that arm and post it on here??

There would be a raised sort of badge/shield shaped mount formed into the header panel if a`71.Doors are`72,swapped if `71 truck.Arm rest pads available from vendors in factory colors. To find axle ratio,if no tab in diff cover bolt, mark tire and ground(like meter-maid)jack-up rear, mark yoke and diff housing, count how many times the wheel turns for the yoke to turn once.About 3 3/4=3.73,4+=4.10/11...Have fun with your truck.

My guess is that you have a Chevy! But seriously...can't you tell a C10 from a C20/30 by the hubs?? Correct me if I am wrong but a C10 has 5 or 6 lugs and C20/30 have 8 lugs?? Looks like a C10

You need to look at the VIN in the door jamb...you may have been given the wront title.
You said the title calls it a 72...but that VIN...it says '72. |

Make sure the paint on the inside of the glovebox door matches paint elsewhere.Especially the cab.

So what emblems should be on my truck (if any) and where?? Would the emblems be the same for 71 and 72?? As of right now everything is primered gray, i will try to scrape off some primer to see the paint. Is there any way to strip the primer and not the paint??
I will try to take some pictures of the glove box door and the door jam. Is that where the VIN is located on these trucks...under the door latch?? Won't stop raining over here, won't be able to get the truck out of the yard untill everything freezes.

if the truck has been repanited.look behind the gas tank in the cab.It is a place in these trucks that is usally not faded or repanited.this is the best place to get an idea of what the oringnial color looked like.

VIN tag
I looked at the VIN tag today.
Title= CS1411615200 Tag= CS1411615000 So it still isn't a match is it?? I attached some pictures, but I can't shrink the vin tag down enough and still be able to read it. You guys can play with it if you want. How do you like the first pic?? That's my uncle's back yard, the truck is sitting to the far right. I had to walk through about 5" of water to take these pics. The sacrifices we make for our and vehicles.

By looking at the numbers you are giving ....15200,and....15000. I would say someone at one time messed up when changing the title,if not originally.....Arent the last few #'s just the build #'s...As in 15200th truck built. The rest match right?

Yeah, I think that it is just the production number. So it is off by 200. Everything else matches on the VIN. I am guessing that somebody swapped cabs, and then put the VIN from the original cab in this one. I would hate to ask at the Title office to have them change it to 15200. They might not do it at all, then I would be screwed. Should I just keep my mouth shut and take the chance?? I didn't get the title changed over yet.

does it have an out of state title? If so, you will have to jump through some hoops.
