motor, acceleration question

when i put my 78 in drive and push on the gas if i do it more then really softly it will die, same in reverse. Do i need to adjust the fuel and air on the carbeautor? or the throtle? thanks for the help

fuel problem for sure, accelerator pump is possibly not working at all, look down the carb with the air cleaner off and move the throttle and make sure you have to nice streams of fuel squirting out.
