Living here in the wet coast has got me wondering whether there is a upgrade to delay style windshield wipers. Anybody have any leads?

There was a thread some time ago about someone adapting a int. wiper switch from a GM school bus.
It was at least 1.5 yrs ago though.

I've always wondered why one of the aftermarket companies hasn't come out with a kit that will work in the original switch position. I would use it a lot!

They (aftermarket variable speed wiper) used to be available from JC Whitney and other el cheepo parts places. Might try some older auto parts stores in your area. It wires into your motor and has a small slide switch mounted under the dash. I have one around someplace that I plan on using some day.

I used to work on school busses. The switches will vary by body type(thomas,bluebird,carpenter,etc.)not chassis........that is a good idea though!

I have used Chevette delay relays and controls. Chevettes have a rectangular wiper motor like the trucks and pull and twist knob mounted on the dash below the headlight switch. The Chevette wiper control is on the column but the delay is on the dash. There is a wiring connector where the delay is jumpered in. Only problem is finding "optioned" Chevettes in the junkyards now. The rewiring to fit the truck is quite simple. The delay control shaft is even the same diameter and shape as the truck wiper switch so I just use a P/U wiper knob.

Now that is a cheap junk-yard mod. Wish I would have known about that before I plunked down 50 odd bucks for the bus switch.

What would it take to hook up foot switch similar to a dimmer switch-momentary on like a starter switch-for one wiper cycle at a time. For me, in newer cars, I use that option alot more than the delay. On my f*rd company truck, the wiper control is on the column and just push in on it for one wipe at a time.
