I need a little advice..
I noticed that the outside bolt hole on the mounting pad for the starter is cracked and was wondering what is the best way to repair this? Isn't this fairly common? I've heard of it just never seen it before.
Thanks, John

A stick shift will fix it.....starter bolts to the bell You might check with some of the local welding shops about welding the cast, then drill & helicoil it? best of luck......69 longhorn

Here is what I'd do personally.
I'd get the little bracket from the dealer that goes on the front of the starter and bolts to the block. Some later model vehicles used it. It bolts to an empty bolt hole on the side of the block. Then, I'd tighten the one good bolt plenty tight and the cracked bolt as tight as I thought I could get away with. My money says you wouldn't have any problems with it, doing it this way. Over the years, when swapping starters, I've run across several with one of the starter bolts complately missing. I'd assume they were just left loose and then fell out later. The whole starter just held up by the remaining one bolt.

I used a longer bolt to reach the good threads but you still may find that the starter will flex or have shim problems.
