Here's a picture of my firewall after being smoothed. It still needs a little work, but it's gettting close. All the holes were welded closed, then body filler was applied to get it nice and smooth.

what are you gonna do about a heater?
I wanna smooth my firewall too and I dont want any hoses goin to it so I am thinkin electric heater I only really need defrost anyways

Just curious, what are you going to do for temp. control in exteme weather? Two windows and park it when it's cold out? Don't take me wrong, I like the look of a clean firewall, but in our part of the country, well, you know!

Since this pic was taken I have also filled the big round fan hole on the left hand side of the firewall.

I plan on using a Hot Rod Air AC/heater unit in mine. It will mount behind the dash and only requires the two heater hoses and the two AC lines to go through the firewall. As far as the wiring, I plan on using a Painless Wiring kit and mount the fuse box behind the seat, on the flat section of floor where the gas tank use to be, and let the wires run out the bottom and along the frame rail. This way, all the wires are hidden and the firewall is smooth as a baby's hind end! LOL

Heater? We don't need no stinkin' heater! Well guys, this truck will be a fair weather truck when it's done, so I'm really not to worried about climate control. It won't be a trailer queen by any means, but it'll be parked during the winter kept out of harsh weather. I'd rather cruise around with the windows down and the vents open than with AC anyway. As for heat/defrost, I may rig up something under the dash. Flex-a-lite makes an auxilliary heater that can be mounted under the dash that would be perect, but it's a little expesive. As for the headligt/park lamp wiring, I plan to run it up in the drivers side fender. The engine wiring will probably be ran under the cab and along the frame. I'm just trying to give the engine compartment a clean and simple look. I also plan on getting rid of the brake booster and just having manual brakes for the same reason.

And yes, Shane, great minds do think alike! Getting that firewall straight was a pain in the ass, wasn't it?

Shane,

I'm putting in a Painless wiring harness, Your gonna have to lengthen alot of wires. (Dash, steering column, brake lights, ignition switch, turn signles, reverse lights, headlight switch) But all the other wires you'll have double what you need.

Low69CST - I'm not planning on using the Painless kit specifically built for our trucks. I am gonna use one of the 18 circuit Street Rod kits, most street rod builders dont put their fuse boxes on the firewalls, so they make the wires longer for this type of thing. The only down side to this kit is you have to put all your own terminals/ends on the wires.

And yes slammed....that firewall was a real pain in the rear! But well worth it now that it is almost finished.
