Guys with airbags, front shock part #?

What part # shock, did you use in the front? I'm particularly looking for dimensions. My front shocks I have now, the collapsed size is 10", I was looking on ART's website, and they're shocks collapsed size is 9.5", so...and I won't be airing ALL the way down, so I think I'll be ok with my 10"ers, right?

Why won't you be " airing ALL the way down"?

Well, I won't be YET...before I air down, I want to either do a X-member drop or Z the frame, so I can REALLY get down

Hey Ken,
can you air your 77 all the way out? Those #33033's compressed length is 10.25", while mine is 10". So, if you can air yours all the way down, I will be able to aswell. Yay! Now I don't have to buy new shocks for the airbags.

Tim, you have me confused. What does a X-member drop or Z'ing the frame have to do with you airing out your system and the shocks you use?

Well yes and no! I can let al the air out of my system, so that means I can air it out! Are the shocks the limiting factor of how low it will go? No! I have custom made bump stops to limit the travel so it doesn't rest on the shocks, OR rub on the fender liners. My truck will roll in the event of system failure.

What I'm trying to tell you is I created the limits of travel. It could go lower if I didn't have the bumpstop set at the height it is. My guess is the shocks would "try" to limit that and the tires would hit the fender liners next.

A good visual of that in practice would be the pic of my Blazer crossmember laying on the ground. The reason it is laying on the ground is because the fender liner (and front clip) weren't on the truck to limit the travel....

I understand what you're saying Ken, and I'm going to do the same thing, have it set up, so if I pop a bag, it'll just rest on the bumpstop. Your truck gets DAMN low, and that's what I'm after, and since I don't have to buy a new set of shocks, it works for me!
What I'm after, is to tuck the top portion (and I mean the VERY top) of my 28" front tires.
What size are your front tires Ken, and can you tuck them just a BIT, with your setup like it is? (Remember, I have long tubes, so I won't be going THAT low)

Ken, id like to know the dimensions of your bumpstops. Because when I was fixing my shock extenders yesterday, I realised that my front will lay out and clear my thorleys since they dont lay any lower than the front X member, but Id like to have that extra insurance that I wont be banging em up everytime I air out.

Tim, your making no sense as usual.

You need shock absorbers that measure 10.125" (Collapsed) by 14" (Extended).

No offense to Ken but his 77' C10 is far from "damn low".

Mine measure 10"(collapsed) x 15.25"(extended) so i guess I'm good. I know Ken isn't damn low, but compared to me, he IS.

10" collapsed will be just fine, I used stcok length shocks on my blazer and they were not the limiting factor. THe A-arms will hit the ground before the shock bottoms out.

True. Your truck still looks like a 4x4.

If you were closer, I would offer to help. BTW, let me know the next time you go to Sacramento Raceway. It's only a 45-minute drive or so from my house.

It's about the same distance from my house :p We're going back in March, but I won't be in the truck.

My front tires are 245/40/20's which calculates out to 27.71" so that's pretty close to your 28" tire.

Here it is "aired out".....

So the shocks can keep you from airing out? I would have thought that with the weight of the vehicle it would just force the shock down.

Yes the shocks can limit how low you go. If they hit the bottom of their travel before the suspension bottoms out they will effectively become your bump stop.....for a while.

No not with the bed on anyway. All I have of the rear are with the bed off and before the bump stops are mounted...

Exactly...1 ton pressing down on them can only last so long.

So with like Zero leafs in there like you have, id guess that sits right on the notch. Ok, thats a good 3 inches lower than mine. Where did you get the upper bag brackets for the sleeve bags? Thats around the same placement I wanna use for my canti setup.

Oh and how does that ride? The AOL with 1 leaf or so?
